Red Arrows head coach Chisi Mbewe says his side must sharpen their finishing after a goalless draw against Power Dynamos in a rescheduled Week 18 encounter played on Thursday afternoon at Nkoloma Stadium.
Despite failing to find the back of the net, Mbewe expressed satisfaction with the number of chances his side created, stressing that converting those opportunities is now the key focus.
“Like always, we appreciate God for the result. We knew this was not going to be an easy game, especially considering how Power Dynamos have been performing lately, both internationally and locally. We came prepared to fight and try to maximize points,” Mbewe said.
“I think a draw is not a bad result against a team of the caliber of Power Dynamos.”
“We Just Need to Be Clinical”
The Airmen boss believes chance creation is a positive sign but emphasized the need for greater composure in decisive moments.
“When you are creating chances, it shouldn’t be a source of worry. The real concern is when you are not creating chances. For us, we are creating them, which is good. But when you create chances, you have to be clinical,” he explained.
“We discussed before the game that this would be about mental moments. When you get one chance, you have to bury it. We just need to improve on our finishing.”
Mbewe added that consistency and belief will be crucial as the MTN Super League season enters a decisive phase.
“This is football. Sometimes it doesn’t go the way you plan. The most important thing is to continue believing, keep working hard, and remain focused. In the second round, especially among the top teams, everyone is fighting. We just need to stay focused and work extra hard.”
Refereeing Decisions Questioned
Mbewe also shared his thoughts on the officiating, suggesting that some calls were questionable on both ends of the pitch.
“It was a very good game with a great atmosphere. People came to watch good football. Unfortunately, the referee is human and can make mistakes. The game looked big for him at times. Some decisions for both teams were questionable,” he said.
Post-Match Disorder Mars Contest
While the match itself ended goalless, it was overshadowed by crowd trouble after the final whistle.
Tensions flared in stoppage time when a supporter entered the pitch following a foul on Albert Kangwanda, who appeared set to race through on goal. The individual reportedly slapped the referee before being restrained, triggering unrest in sections of the crowd.
After the match, disorder escalated in the open wing as some supporters began throwing objects at one another. Approximately 20 people were reportedly injured, with medical personnel responding swiftly to attend to those affected.
Title Race Remains Tight
Despite the stalemate, Red Arrows remain top of the table on 40 points, with Power Dynamos just a point behind on 39 — setting up a thrilling run-in as the title race intensifies.
