Hamansenya joins Slovan Liberec on season-long loan

Zambia international defender David Hamansenya has joined Czech Republic top-flight side Slovan Liberec on a season-long loan from Spanish club CD Leganés.

The deal, finalised on Tuesday, includes an option for Slovan Liberec to make the move permanent at the end of the season.

Slovan Liberec currently sit second in the Czech top flight after seven rounds, with Hamansenya set to link up with the squad after the September international break.

The 19-year-old spent the past two seasons at Leganés, where he developed into a rotational part of the club’s setup.

Hamansenya thanked Leganés for his time at the Spanish club, describing it as his home over the past two seasons.

“Leganés has been my home for the last two seasons and I am very grateful for everything the club has done for me,” Hamansenya said.

He added that he was excited by the move to the Czech Republic and felt Slovan Liberec was the right destination for the next stage of his career.

“I am very happy to join Slovan Liberec. I decided to sign because they showed me that they really wanted me, and that was an important factor in my decision.”

Hamansenya’s agent, Nir Karin, said the move was primarily driven by the need for the defender to secure more regular first-team football.

“David needs more playing time and we believe the Czech Republic is a perfect place for him to get that,” Karin said.

He also pointed to the Czech league’s history of providing opportunities for Zambian players as another factor behind the decision.

“The Czech league has always been good for Zambian players, and that was also a factor in making this decision.”

Hamansenya is currently in Spain and will travel to the Czech Republic to join his new teammates once the international break concludes.
