Tana: Roan draw provides important lessons for Nkana

Nkana coach Elijah Tana says Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Roan United provided valuable lessons as Kalampa continue their preparations for the MTN Super League Transition Season.

Tana was encouraged by his side’s response after conceding inside the opening two minutes at Kafubu Stadium in Luanshya, but admitted Nkana must improve their starts.

“We started the game at a low pace. We conceded that goal in the first two minutes, which is not good for us,” Tana said.

Nkana twice came from behind in the friendly, with Charles Zulu cancelling out Joshua Banda’s early opener before Joseph Chileshe’s 83rd-minute equaliser rescued a draw after Semiwe Mwila had restored Roan’s lead.

Tana was particularly pleased with Nkana’s second-half performance as the technical bench continues to assess the squad and address areas for improvement.

“In the second half we played very well. We managed to equalise late in the game. We had some chances to win the game in the second half,” he added.

With the new league campaign approaching, Tana says every pre-season fixture is an opportunity to fine-tune the team ahead of their opening match against newly promoted Trident FC on 3 October.

“Our expectation is to start strong in the league. These games will help us prepare for it,” Tana said.
