Siwale Blames Missed Chances for Defeat to Konkola Blades

ZESCO United head coach Emmanuel Siwale has attributed his side’s 1-0 defeat away to Konkola Blades to poor finishing, insisting the result could have been different had his players converted their opportunities.

The Ndola-based outfit suffered a setback on the road after failing to make their dominance count in front of goal.

“It’s a bad day in the office. The boys played well and we created chances. If we had taken those chances, it would have been a different story,” Siwale said.

“If we cannot score from the many chances we created, that becomes part of our problem. I don’t want to make excuses because we have lost. We have lost because we did not put the ball in the net from the chances we had.”

Gratitude to the Fans

Despite the disappointment, Siwale was quick to acknowledge the club’s supporters for their unwavering backing.

“We can only appeal to them. It’s painful that we lost, and we lost together with them. But the beauty about our fans is that they are always with us, even in difficult times like today,” he said.

“We want to thank them and urge them to continue supporting us in the next game so that they can see for themselves what is happening.”

Mutama the Match Winner

The decisive moment came courtesy of Steven Mutama, who curled home a superb free kick to hand the Chililabombwe outfit all three points in what was a tightly contested encounter.

The victory lifts Konkola Blades to seventh place on 30 points, while ZESCO United remain 11th on 25 points.

Beyond the three points, the result carries added significance for the hosts, marking their first win over ZESCO United since 2013 — a morale-boosting triumph that could reignite their push up the MTN Super League table as the season gathers momentum.
