Zambian striker Patson Daka was in action on Thursday as European football competitions came alive.
Daka and Leicester City were in Netherlands for a UEFA conference League quarter-final second leg tie with the hope of making history.
PSV EINDHOVEN 1-2 LEICESTER CITY
After a goalless draw at King Power Stadium in the first leg, Daka and Leicester City needed a result to progress to their first semifinal in Europe.
Brendan Rogers made seven changes from Sunday’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, with Kasper Schmeichel, Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall the players to remain meaning Patson Daka dropped to the bench.
The hosts took the lead in the 27th minute, Tielemans gave the ball away in midfield and Götze was there to slide in Eran Zahavi, who fired low into the far corner from a tight angle to break the deadlock.
With a big second half coming up, a double substitution at the interval saw Ademola Lookman and Daka replace Albrighton and Barnes. They immediately played a part in City’s next attack, though the Zambian international was dispossessed in the PSV box in the build-up.
Daka was again involved, Kelechi Iheanacho released Daka, the Kafue native sprinted towards goal, however he couldn’t hit the target while one-on-one with Mvogo just after the hour mark.
The Foxes finally drew level in the 77th minute, substitute Ayonze Pérez cut past Ramalho and teed up Maddison who fired home the leveller with under 15 minutes of normal time to play.
Leicester finally took the lead eleven minutes later, Dewsbury-Hall found Lookman, and while Daka’s shot was initially saved, Ricardo slammed home the rebound to put his side into a deserved 2-1 lead.
Leicester held on to win and will now face Italian side, AS Roma who saw off Bodø/Glimt. This means Leicester are in the last four of a European competition for the first time ever.
