Chaiwa Scores Own Goal, Sent Off as Hibs Crash Out

Zambian midfielder Miguel Chaiwa endured a night to forget as Hibernian suffered a dramatic 3-2 home defeat to KAA Gent in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday night.

Hibernian looked set to advance after holding a 2-1 lead in the 84th minute at Easter Road, but a late collapse saw Gent score twice to turn the tie around.

Chaiwa was booked in the 60th minute before calamity struck in stoppage time when the former Shamuel Academy graduate turned the ball into his own net, handing Gent the lead.

Moments later, Chaiwa received a second yellow card and was sent off, as Hibs’ European campaign came to a disappointing end.

Despite the difficult night, Chaiwa continues to attract interest, with the former Shamuel Academy graduate reportedly being linked with moves to English Championship sides Fulham and Sunderland.

The defeat saw Hibernian bow out of the competition after surrendering their advantage in dramatic fashion.
