Zambian international Gamphani Lungu has been nominated for the Orlando Pirates Player of the Month award after making an impressive start to his career with the South African giants.
Lungu, who joined the Buccaneers during the off-season, is one of six players shortlisted for the club’s inaugural Player of the Month award for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 28-year-old has quickly established himself as one of Pirates’ standout performers, contributing at both ends of the pitch as the club made an unbeaten start to the new season.
Lungu has made six appearances so far, scoring three goals and providing one assist to emerge as the club’s leading scorer during August.
His versatility has also been a key feature of his early spell at Orlando Stadium, with the Zambia international operating at right-back as well as in more advanced positions.
Pirates have enjoyed a strong opening to the campaign, sitting top of the Betway Premiership after four matches without defeat while also booking their place in another MTN8 final.
Lungu’s form has therefore come at an important time for the Buccaneers as they look to compete for honours on multiple fronts.
He faces competition for the monthly award from Oswin Appollis, Sipho Chaine, Tshepang Moremi, Lebone Seema and Thapelo Mokobodi.
Appollis has scored twice and ranks among the club’s leading chance creators, while goalkeeper Chaine has kept five clean sheets in seven matches.
Moremi has contributed two goals and an assist in four appearances, with Seema recording a goal and an assist from defence. Mokobodi, meanwhile, has impressed in midfield and scored his first goal for the club over the weekend.
For Lungu, however, the nomination provides further recognition of a promising start to life in the black and white of Orlando Pirates.
