Locally based Chipolopolo coach Wedson Nyirenda will in the coming days name his final squad for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The premier tournament for Africa’s home-based national footballers will be staged from 2 to 30 August 2025, across three East African countries: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Zambia has been preparing for this tournament since last year and used the 2025 COSAFA Cup tournament as part of their preparation for the continental showpiece.
Nyirenda is expected to bank on players like Abraham Siankombo, Fred Mulambia, Andrew Phiri, Kelvin Kapumbu, Killian Kanguluma, Dominic Chanda and Lawrence Mulenga for this tournament.
Nyirenda could also rope in Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba who just returned home after a stint in Libya.
The Chipolopolo will be making their fifth appearance at the biannual tournament with their best outing being 2009 when they finished third.
Since then Zambia has missed three tournaments (2011, 2014 and 2022) and reached the quarter finals the other three times (2016,2018, and 2020).
Nyirenda will be assisted by Nkana legend and 2017 U20 AFCON winning coach Beston Chambeshi and Green Eagles boss Perry Mutapa.
Zambia were drawn in Group A alongside co-host Kenya, two-time winners Morocco and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Angola
The winner of the CHAN 2024 will now bag USD 3.5 million, an increment by 32 percent compared to 2022.

With tgis coach we are out before the team is made and before kicking a ball.
Poor coach
No plan or philosophy worth admiring
If we did not learn anything from Cosafa then…
Kaya uku ku Chan.
Yes. Seriously, FAZ needs to consider other options for coach. We cannot expect different results using the same coach.
