Kingstone Mutandwa joins Swiss side Servette on loan from Cagliari

Zambian international striker Kingstone Mutandwa has joined Swiss top-flight side Servette FC on loan from Italian club Cagliari Calcio, with the deal including an option to make the move permanent.

The 23-year-old arrives in Geneva after an impressive campaign in Austria, where he scored 14 goals in 29 official appearances for SV Ried.

His 14-goal haul made Mutandwa the Austrian Bundesliga’s leading scorer excluding penalty goals, underlining his development since moving to Europe.

Mutandwa was developed in Zambia before continuing his career in Italy, where he came through Cagliari’s youth system and eventually made the step into professional football.

He has also established himself on the international stage with the Zambia national team, earning several caps for the Chipolopolo.

Servette described the forward as a powerful and athletic striker who will add further strength to Jocelyn Gourvennec’s attacking options.

The move represents another opportunity for Mutandwa to build on his breakthrough season in Austria, with the Swiss club holding an option to sign him permanently at the end of the loan spell.

Founded in March 1890, Servette are one of Switzerland’s historic clubs and are based in Geneva. Nicknamed “The Garnets”, the club have won the Swiss league title 17 times, although their most recent championship success came in the 1998/99 season.

They have also lifted the Swiss Cup eight times.

Mutandwa will now look to translate his prolific form in Austria to the Swiss top flight as he continues his progression in European football.
