Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa has named a strong 24-man squad for the club’s CAF Champions League first preliminary round first leg tie against Sudanese giants Al Merrikh.
Former Simba SC attacking midfielder Joshua ‘Budo’ Mutale, Wilson Chisala and Chadian striker Amine Hiver are expected to form part of the core of the team that will face Al Merrikh, with Dominic Chanda and Fredrick Mulambia also among the key players in the squad.
The Zambian champions arrived in Kigali on Tuesday ahead of the first leg, which will be played in Rwanda on 5th September.
Power Dynamos will host the return leg between 11 and 13 September, with the aggregate winner advancing to the second preliminary round.
The winner of that stage will face either Algeria’s JS Saoura or Guinea’s Horoya AC for a chance to secure a place in the CAF Champions League group stage.
Power Dynamos head into the campaign as back-to-back MTN Super League champions, having secured the 2025/26 title with 78 points from 34 matches.
The triumph was their ninth league title and further underlined their dominance in Zambian domestic football.
The Kitwe-based side will also be hoping to build on a historic continental campaign last season, when they reached the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time.
Power Dynamos remain the only Zambian club to have won a major CAF men’s club competition, having lifted the CAF Cup Winners’ Cup in 1991.
