Zambia international Gamphani Lungu has been voted Orlando Pirates’ Player of the Month for August after an impressive start to life with the Soweto giants.
Lungu featured in six matches during the month, playing 392 minutes and making a significant impact in the final third as Pirates began the 2026/27 campaign unbeaten in the league and reached the MTN8 final.
The 26-year-old winger scored three goals and provided one assist, meaning he was directly involved in four goals. He also created eight chances across competitions.
His performances earned him 3,377 votes out of the 6,750 cast in the club’s supporters’ poll, giving him almost half of the total votes and a comfortable victory.
Defender Lebone Seema finished second with 1,405 votes, while Oswin Appollis was third with 848.
Goalkeeper Sipho Chaine received 481 votes to finish fourth, followed by Thapelo Mokobodi on 421 and Tshepang Moremi on 218.
Lungu joined Pirates with the task of establishing himself in a competitive attacking department and has made an immediate impression, with his goalscoring contribution and creativity helping the club make a strong start to the new season.
