The Zambia Women’s National team suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to Slovenia in their opening game of the 2023 Turkish Women’s Cup.
After a 1-0 win over North Macedonia in a Friendly game Zambia faced off with Slovenia in their opening match of the Turkish Women’s Cup.
Coach Bruce Mwape made three changes to the team that beat Macedonia. Skipper Barbra Banda who missed the match captained the team and Rachel Kundananji and Grace Chanda were also given the nod.
Hellen Mubanga, Prisca Chilufya and Ochumba Oseke Lubanji dropped to the bench.
It was a balanced affair from the word go with both teams looking to collect maximum points.
Banda and Kundananji looked lively from the word go.
However the definitive moment of the match came in the 18th minute as Slovenia captain Zver Mateja caught Hazel Nali off her line with a sublime long range effort.
Zambia came close a few times but there were no definite clear cut chances.
Kundananji came close with a powerful shot inside the box but it was pushed out for a corner.
1-0 the match finished. The Copper Queens next game will be against Uzbekistan on 21 February at 10h00.
