Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club moved to the top of the ZPL Women’s Super League—at least temporarily—after a composed 2-0 victory over ZANACO Ladies on Saturday, setting up a decisive midweek clash in the title race.
Maylan Mulenga broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, finishing confidently to give Buffaloes control before the break.
Substitute Lydia Shamalima then sealed the win late on, converting from a well-worked move assisted by Maweta Chilenga to secure three crucial points.
The result lifts Buffaloes to 74 points, one clear of ZESCO Ndola Girls, who have a game in hand against ZISD Women. The two title contenders are now set to meet in a potentially decisive encounter in midweek.
Indeni hold off late scare in Ndola
In Ndola, Indeni Roses Football Club claimed a dramatic 3-2 victory over
Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles Queens in a pulsating five-goal contest.
Esther Mukwasa opened the scoring early with a superbly taken free-kick in the 13th minute before turning provider after the break, delivering a pinpoint corner for Edith Phiri to head home Indeni’s second in the 54th minute.
Kamfinsa mounted a late comeback, with Namakau Mwangala pulling one back in the 87th minute to set up a tense finish.
Thandiwe Nkhata appeared to have sealed it for Indeni deep into stoppage time (90+3’), but Happy Machayi struck almost immediately (90+5’) to keep Kamfinsa within touching distance. Despite the late pressure, Indeni held on for all three points.
Elsewhere, already-relegated Chipata Girls showed resilience to hold National Assembly Women to a 1-1 draw. Patricia Lampi had given Assembly the lead in the 75th minute, but Memory Zulu responded five minutes later to ensure the spoils were shared.
