Nkana FC interim coach Elijah Tana has urged his players to remain fully focused as they prepare to host Nchanga Rangers in Sunday’s MTN Super League clash at Nkana Stadium.
The 13-time champions head into the match under pressure, having managed just one win in their last eight league outings. Nkana sit 13th on the table with 35 points, following a 1-1 draw against NAPSA Stars in their previous fixture.
“Tomorrow’s game is an important one for us. Nchanga Rangers are not a small team — it’s a big team,” Tana said.
Nchanga arrive in Kitwe in contrasting form, occupying fourth place with 46 points. They ended a five-match losing streak with a narrow 1-0 victory over Nkwazi and will be aiming to solidify their position in the top four.
Despite recent struggles, Tana believes his side’s preparations have been on track.
“In the game against NAPSA, we did what we planned for. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the three points. But for this game, we’ve prepared according to our plan,” he said.
The former Chipolopolo captain was unequivocal in his message to his squad: focus will be key.
“I want them to be focused,” he added.
Nkana’s recent run — five draws and two defeats in eight matches — has left them in need of a positive result, particularly in front of their home supporters. Tana has promised an entertaining contest.
“The fans should come and enjoy our display. It will be a very exciting game.”
Historically, Nkana hold the edge in this fixture, with nine wins compared to Nchanga’s six, alongside 10 draws in their last 25 meetings. The reverse fixture earlier this season ended 1-1.
Sunday’s match will be played at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 CAT.
