Power Dynamos focused on title defence and cup ambition – Mwamba

By Angela Bambala Bwalya

Power Dynamos travel to Konkola Stadium on Saturday aiming to tighten their grip on the MTN Super League title and extend an unbeaten run that has reached 15 matches in all competitions.

Kick-off in Chililabombwe is set for 15:00 local time, with the league leaders holding a commanding 12-point advantage at the summit following a 2-0 win over Zanaco in their previous outing.

Goalkeeper coach Martin Mwamba says the squad is firmly aligned with the club’s ambitions as the season approaches its decisive phase.

“The team is ready and the players understand our objectives,” Mwamba said. “We want to defend the Super League and win the ABSA Cup. Everyone who gets an opportunity must show they are capable.”

Power’s consistency has been underpinned by strong internal competition, particularly in the goalkeeping department, where Willard Sakala, Lawrence Mulenga and Josephat Sakala are all pushing for selection.

“We have three goalkeepers and each one has to prove himself,” Mwamba explained. “That competition is healthy for the team. Whoever is selected, we are confident they will perform.”

With fixtures coming thick and fast, Mwamba emphasised the importance of maintaining standards across the squad.

“All the players know what is required. Anyone given a chance must perform to help us maintain our position,” he added.

Saturday’s opponents, Konkola Blades, are expected to provide a stern test. The Chililabombwe side are unbeaten in their last outing after holding second-placed Red Arrows to a 1-1 draw and will look to capitalise on home advantage.

However, Power’s technical bench believes preparation will be key to securing another positive result.

“We know how Konkola Blades play and we are ready for them,” Mwamba said. “The focus is on getting the three points. That is the motivation as we push to defend the title.”

Power won the reverse fixture 2-1 and have not lost to Blades since 2021, reinforcing their status as favourites.

With the title race firmly in their control, Mwamba also called on supporters to play their part.

“We want our fans to come in numbers and support the team so that we can get maximum points,” he said.
