In recent weeks, there has been debate on whether is still an African giant in football.
Last weekend, after Zambia’s dismissal performance at an Angola invitational four nations tournament, Namibian coach said ‘Zambia is no longer a giant anymore,’
And this led to brave Warriors fans bragging about how they have beaten Zambia three times this year and claiming the 2012 African Cup of Nations minnows.
Below are views from fans perspective on the subject.
Chipolopolo Bullet says
Most bloggers have brought out the criterias on whether Chipolopolo should be considered as a giant. In the first place why are we having such a conversation? What is critical is for us to do a root cause analysis and I have come to conclude that what is causing this debate can be attributed to Zambias inconsistencies. And why these inconsistencies;
1. Administrative issues-check out travel arrangement
2. Local league not competitive enough-No much incentives and infrastructures in place
3. No grassroot football-No academies
4. Our players lack disciplineI wont be drawn in the debate of whether we are giants or not. But one thing for sure is that every team goes through a cycle. A good example is Egypt.
Additionally, Zambia should atleast qualify to the world cup at which ever level.

Kay Hummer said….
We have very shallow minded individuals on this blog who think that Zambia is a minnow. ZAMBIA IS A GIANT FOOTBALLING nation on the African continent. Please get that. We are talking about a team that has played in four AFCON finals and has won one.
For a footballing giant that we are; we should have at least won three Afcon titles by now. I heard some analysts last night saying that it is so strange that Zambia has NEVER played at the world cup before.
We have won countless COSAFA cup trophies both at senior and under 20 levels.
We have also won the Nelson Mandela challenge cup and CECAFA trophies.
We are talking about a team that has played at 17 AFCON tournaments and only missed one or two. People Zambia is a giant.
CHIPOLOPOLO ARE A GIANT ON THE AFRICAN continent!!!

Zambia is one of the most successful nations in African football and clearly a giant. Giant has nothing to do with how many players you have in europe but you have achieved in major tournaments. By beating Italy 4-0 at the 1988 olympics and winning afcon in 2012 zambia is clearly a giant.
You rubbish an Afcon Cup won thirty years ago but yet glorify a win over Italy in 88 a proud achievement?
I dunno what type of fan you but you never cease to amaze with your contradictions and shallow minded arguments.
Tickle yourself and laugh….
I think that if your name rings aloud outside the continent of Africa, and top international teams from around the world pay serious attention to you in FIFA competitive matches, you can be considered a giant. Giants are consistent at the top range. Once a while they may be shot down like a 7-0 defeat for Brazil or 7-1 defeat for Egypt but they get back up there quickly.
zambia”s status as an african giant came to an after the afcon 1998. though we r still giants in southern africa
Namibia are just a bunch of amateurs who will never compete at any serious international tournament
How many serious international tournaments have Zambia competed in?
Lots…its just the World Cup we have never seen my dear fellow…
Zamfoot congrats.i never knew you really appreciate it when the argument becomes so heated. These are some of the articles that keep we the non Zambians on this site.
what these namibians shod know is that the team they have played is the local one. namibia doesnt stand any chance of beating zambia A-Team.
foolish namibians zambia a minnow to them
John says we are one of the most successful nations on the continent,on wat grounds?ur level of immaturity never cease to amaze me….yes we won afcon once and what happened after dat?giants maintain their status and qualify for top tournaments and us we lost that status just a year after winning the trophy…we have to dominate cosafa, win afcon and qualify for a world cup(consistently) then we will talk but for now,we not giants..sorry john
I think we need to define the word “Giant”. Simply put “Giant” means something of great size or force, gigantic. I am not really sure if Zambia is really a giant. But I can confidently say that Zambia is “one of the top teams in Africa” or maybe “one of the giants of African football”. It’s all about semantics here. Going by pedigree, I can say the giants are Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon and Ivory Coast, maybe Zambia, South Africa, Algeria, Tunisia may also come in. But based on what? What is the basis of being an African “Giant”? That is the question we should ask ourselves. But I can confidently say that Zambia is one the top teams in Africa. My opinion.
Zambia is one of the top team, but NOT a giant. We need to do more like qualifying to world cup, winning some more African trophies, consistency, etc, to be classified a giant. To be honest let’s not fool ourselves. We still have some way to go. But like I have said earlier, Zambia is one of the top teams in Africa.
This is not even an issue for debate. Zambia has never hosted afcon and yet has such a remarkable record at afcon. Zambia has won that cup and participated 17 times that’s remarkable. Egypt have hosted that cup about 4 times or so and Nigeria and Ghana a few times so we are definitely giant in africa
As things stand zambia has qualified for under 23 afcon, chan, zambia is in the race for afcon, on the way to the group stage of the world cup qualifiers. Zambia is currently consistent despite the poor team selection and corruption.
There are 2 categories of giants in africa(according to me)…categorie 1 we have Nigeria,Ghana,Algeria,Ivory coast,Egypt, and categories 2 we have zambia,RSA,cameroon,Tunisia and morocco….
Africa FIFA ranking 1-10 clearly are giants
Keep working hard Zed…you’ll get there with hard work and determination.
Zambia is one of few southern african teams that is feared out of southern africa when playing the west or north but i dont belive they are a giant because they dont perform when its needed most eg world cup qualifiers. You need to show CONSITENCY WEEK IN WEEK OUT YEAR IN YEAR OUT by qualifying to all major tournaments and performing well when your there. Ok you won 1 African cup by PENALTIES and not by goals. Lets be real penalties can go either way. So until zambia can win another afcon without resulting to lucky penalties shoot out then i clasify you as a Giant. The recent final against Ghana and Ivory Coast could have literally went either way. Zambians need to humble them selves and build from the ground up. There is always talk for teams like Ghana to humble themselves but they dont need to because they wallop teams in africa year in year out so there for they have everyright to be over cofident wether its good or bad. Until zambia can beat any team on the continent anytime anywhere when it matters most then you also have right to be overconfident but as for now your results clearly indicate ZAMBIA IS NOT A GIANT. Stop being optimistic over your past glory because this is the present. There are people on this blog that still bring up a 1988 win againt italy so there for your a giant hahaha 1988 was exactly 27 years ago if we are to go through records of the past then Ghana Nigeria Egypt have countless wins over major European teams. Zambia humble yourself and know your roll. Keep working on winning games constantly so you can be recognized as an african giant outside africa e.g when europeans speak of african soccer Ghana Nigeria n ivory coast comes up because they perform well. To be a giant you need other nations to call your nation giants in football RATHER THAN YOU TRYING TO TAG YOURSELF AS A GIANT WHEN HALF THE WORLD HASNT EVEN HERD OF ZAMBIA. TRUTH BE TOLD
Ghana drawing with Comoros these are the gaints
which recent final have we prayed against Ghana? All i remember is that we beat Ghana in the semis of 2012. Lets face it, when so called west or north african giants come to play zambia( of all teams in souther africa), they count it a 50-50 afair/a pposible defeat.
How did Ivory Coast win the last AFCON against Ghana…What about Egypt’s win in 2006 against Ivory Coast…all these were won through penalties…Can you say they didn’t deserve it after going through to the final undefeated…I do not know the criteria to be used for a team to be considered a giant but I know Zambia has achieved much where most Southern African teams have faltered…we have closely fought with major West African power houses of football in Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroun…our pain is in North Africa especially in Egypt…they wallop us hands down…the truth is Zambia has strove where few have managed to score success and ultimately reigned in African Football in 2012…No one can take that away… Only GIANTS have won it!
Algeria is almost at par with zambia the only thing is that it has been to the world cup
Is this a debate for kay hummer john and ghanians to debate…
The truth is simply that Zambia is a force in African football, a special force which can rise and bite giants. Zambia is a force such that lower teams like Namibia can feel happy/proud to beat 3 times in a year. We are not giants, we don’t have players in Europe playing top flight. We have not yet been to the world stage!!! We are not Giants but if we do get the world stage more and if we do make strong appearances on the continent then Zambia will be giants. Not until then.
i think u smoked dry paw paw leaves for you to say that
that is directed at john i must say
We are no longer giants. We cant be bragging about 1988 olympique success when @john was still in napkins. ‘Ubulimi bwakale tabutalalika mwana’. We want better results now.
But we can brag about 2012
Silly namibians, form is temporary, class is permanent. Zambia is a class act. Zambia in its first afcon in 1974, went straight to the finals vs zaire. Which of u new little roaches have done that lately. Zambia lost an entire national team in a tragic plane crush in 1993, we dried our tears, managed to put togather another team, completed our qualifier and ended up in the finals of afcon in 1994 with nigeria. Zambia featured a bunch of unknowns but took nigeria to the wire. not even ivory coast of today can put togather a conquering team within year of loosing their first choice. We scored first, but we couldnt stand the quality of the eagles, who to me is the best team nigeria has ever put togather. We beat italy 4-0 at the 88 olympics. Have u done that lately? Italy had some notable stars u know…oh and we ended up producing southern africas only africa footballer of the year… u might have heard of kalusha bwalya? Please namibia, it is an insult to us zambians to be named in the same bracket as u. 4 us wen zambia doesnt qualify to afcon, its a national disaster of epic proportions. The fires himself and a commission of enquiry is set. For u guys its tradition not to feature, u just fulfill fixtures. Remember its just 3 years ago wen we were crown champions, so dont be silly namibia. We just have one small challenge for u nambia, qualify for afcon!!!!!!
Nicely said we are a force indeed.
I ment to say: the coach fires himself and a commission of ………
If we go by junior tornaments as a category 4 identifying giants, then NIGERIA, GHANA & MALI are giants of not only africa but entire world. @ paradox Namibia coach is right coz they beat us 3 times also with there b side. how can we develop if our developmental teams are always clobered and only thinks we can only win at senior level?
bro mumbi let namibia beat zambia main team three times then i will agree with them
Zambia is a Giant! We are very consistent in African football and are a force to recon with especially when playing against African notable, talented and mature teams by these I mean Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Cameroon, Senegal, Congo DRC, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia. These teams Countrymen have been very consistent despite hiccups of some sort in their Countries, I know most people might argue about Congo DRC but We have over time witnessed the influence that Congo has exerted in the football fraternity, at both club and national levels, especially where production of players of quality both locally and as exports to Europe is concerned. To me the Team that can top the list is Nigeria they are very consistent and a force to recon with in African Soccer at all levels both in Africa and the World.
Let us look at RSA (Bafana Bafana), they have all the money and infrastructure but have failed to command authority both at club and national levels. Further, they had a glamorous chance of hosting the world cup but never reaped anything from that. When you look at talent, there is Prodigious talent in Zambia but We lack the following under listed things:
1.An Extensive Youth program.
2.Administration (at all levels).
3.Exposure.
4.Marketing.
5.Infrastructure.
6.Monetary Capital.
7.Confidence ( players and Coaches)
Most Players are exceptionally talented but they lack education in various areas like; confidence, personal discipline, foresight and knowledge in the area of soccer and sports.
Sometimes We lose not as a result of not playing well but simply because We lacked that drive (Vuma). Look at South Africa they have that drive, confidence and pride in their Country.
Zambia “Chipolopolo” is a soccer Giant with consistence at almost all levels in Africa, statistics are reminiscent of this truth, the World Cup qualification will definitely come soonest but this can not eliminate the strong pedigree truth that ZAMBIA is soccer Giant.
Interesting. So you can now see how it feels when a team u know to be at a lower level than you compares itself to you because it has beaten you Two or Three times? Zambia is a daily bread for Namibia.LOL As Ghana is a daily bread for Zambia so is Zambia a daily bread with cheese for Namibia. Siafuo
anyone who knows a football web site for namibians. i want to go and make some noise
they dont play football
I can not talk about Namibia because they have no strong and convincing history to allay Zambia’s soccer prodigy. The platforms they are using to claim their demise of Zambia’s dominance over them is too narrow and small.
Madagascar 2-0 Senegal 72 mins.
Unbelievable
bodo we r in the 21 century which has no minnows
We must know that football and money can not be separated, look at what kenyans are doing to their league. There was a time when our football was massively sponsored by then ZCCM,” serious player retention was there” now we can sale our players after one good league performance. Does anybody care what that does to our league? We have companies with no will to take any league team aboard and yet to most of us that’s normal, we want our national team to be a giant when our clubs can’t make the final four of the CAF champions league? Do our admnistrators agents even care that every player we sale out weakens our league?
Giants we are not and giants we will not be until we sort out even just a quarter of our issues.
Namibia can’t beat zambia in a competitive match. This namibian coach is jst dreamin
Madagascar 2 senegal 1
lol…..some comments!!!
Madagascar 2 senegal 2
I think this guy is a southafrican who pretends to be zambian
BY FORCE GIANTS LOL!! They always force things on themselves whiles other pple sees it otherway!!
Making your own crown doesn’t make u a king!!
Zambia is a top team in African football. Giant? NO
We are talking about football here. Football is not all about senior team. We have U-17, U-20, U-23/Olympic team and Senior team same with Female football.
We all know the calibre of teams that have represented well from U-17-senior team. They’ve done well in both Fifa and Caf competition and they have more than 1 AFCON title.
What is the big deal in an olympic match played 27 years ago? We are in 2015 not 1988.
Thank you. Well said.
But I thought our youth teams have consistently competed at this level. Sinkala’s team, Mayuka’s team were these not at the world cup? Forget the Namibians, they just want attention
Our youth team may be at the wc but how many times? We talking about consistency here.
I am not talking about Namibia iwe. Namibia are useless. They are not Zambia’s match.
Ghana? Lol struggling against minnows. Lol where is loud mouth idiamin?
Ghana ll BEAT Comoros by 7 goals in Kumasi as usual as all minnows have suffered bf!!
Leostho 7, Egypt 6, Mauritius 7 and comoros ll not be diff!!
Zambia has beaten Sudan so they are giants but SUDAN LL KICK OUT ZAMBIA IN NDOLA!! LOL
Lol that’s funny, your football founding fathers could not succeed even with their monkey tricks. Ghana will not qualify and 5 minutes after the game you guys will fire Grant. Lol
ZAMBIA is giant on the African continent and shall remain as such. It is only individuals like Big Steve 4rm SA who think we are not a giant. This issue is non debatable. I have said it a million times already on this blog! ZAMBIA/CHIPOLOPOLO are a GIANT footballing nation! PERIOD!
Ghana 0 Comoros 0. Lol. Return match it will be Ghana 1 Comoros 1.
Lol –I FOUND U AS A FUNNY GUY..
ITS NOT GOING TO HAPEN AS U THINK.
Lol, Kwame, I know it won’t as Gyan will probably play in the return match, but these minnows can be a frustration at times. Good luck.
HT: KENYA 1-0 CAPE VERDE.
@Kay Hummer If zambia is really a power house in African football, then I guess Egypt, ivory coast, Nigeria, Ghana and Cameroon are MEGA SUPER Power house in African football
GIVE US DE NAMIBIAN FOOTBALL WEBSITE WE WANT TO GO & MAKE NOISE
They dont play football!!!!They just need attention. Namibia uses its best team to beat Zambia and they are all over, let us see how far they will go in both the World cup and AFCON qualifiers. Namibia certainly are not in Zambia’s league even in these troubled times. A struggling Zambia beats everybody in Soouthern Africa including their elder brother SA. We dont care to field the real Zambia when playing any one of them!!!!!!Cosafa is for developing budding talent!!!!When did Kalaba or Chisamba Lungu last play in Cossafa?
Same can be said about Zambia when u beat Ghana’s then youthful team without key players in the 2012 Afcon. Then Zambia used their best squad against a Ghanaian squad without Essien, ayew, Kevin prince Boateng and Sulley muntari. Most of that Ghanaian team were then new comers
ZAMBIA IS A POWER HOUSE OF FOOTBALL IN AFRICA, NAMIBIAN COACH IS A FOOL THATS WHY THEY LOST TO GUINEA AT HOME YESTERDAY
NAMIBIA CAN NOT BEAT ZAMBIA TEAM A.
Fayo my broooda, u discuss our one time afcon victory as a lucky penalty shoot out which could have gone either way, thats inaccurate. Firstly penalties are a perfect reflection of a teams confidence levels of its individual players, their preparedness and mentle fortitude. Penalties are taken as a final resort for teams that have failed to beat each other in open play. So, there’s some element of equalness (parrity) between the two teams. so can wr say zambia was equal to ivory coast at least on the day? of course!!. On the issue of confidence, IC didnot loose that game during the shootouts. Let me tell u, during open play ivory coast were awarded a penulty, drogba took it and while he struck a neverous look, kennedy mweene was laughing in his face. Drogba missed. And in an act of pure defiance and tonga bull arrogance, mweene ran up to drogba and did the famous john cena’s “u cant see me” while didier hanged his head in shame. My friend that image is an iconic picture in zambia. And it was a clear statement to the ivorians that we were not afraid them. Its at that point that ivory coast lost the game because they realised that we were going to fight to the death, they thought we were high on steroids. Could u fight with a madman? So the penalty shootout loss was just a confirmation of their loss in self belief. My brooda, u make it sound like we won afcon with a penalty shoot out victory, the tournament was a journey that saw us beat ghana, senegal and many others along the way. Be reminded that ghana’s last afcon victory was 1982, and u beat libya on penalty shoot outs. So dont throw stones while u sit relax drinking wiskey un yo glass house.
Without checking who won what we can all agree the following or there abouts:
Giants
Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia, Ghana, Ivory Coast(Morocco would be giants and Cameroun former giants)
Second Tier
Algeria, South Africa, (Zambia who never went to a World Cup)
Third Tier
Mali, Senegal, Sudan, Guinea, (DR Congo including Zaire history)
Maybe i am wrong alittle bit but John and which ever other person who brought this topic up needs to wake up.
We are not on the level of the top teams so no matter how you want to sugar coat it, truth starring at you.
Zambia is the biggest team that has never qualified to the World Cup finals, and I guess it is that criteria you are using to guage whether Zambia is in tier 1 or 2. but you have also put Egypt, whose only qualification to the Worldcup was in 1990, quite a poor record!!!!I dont know why you have put Morocco their, world cup qualification again? Use figures not your heart boss
@Zagwa, how do you define “biggest Team” in terms of national Teams? I don’t know about you, but every time Zambia is playing since 1997, you just have to bite your finger nails as you don’t know what team will show up. We are not feared anymore and that is why we are struggling to even beat the minnows like Namibia, Guinea Bissau or Lesotho.
That looks like a clear picture of where we are. Second tier and that’s pretty much it.
The Namibian should awake from his slumber. The team we sent for the meaningless four nations tournament was like Zambia C or D. He should focus on coaching his MINNOW team!
Zambia is still a giant, even giants get beaten. eg Goliath was beaten by David. Always proud to be Zambian!
Zambian has never been a giant, ever.
Angola 1-2 South Africa. 35 min played.
FT: Kenya 1-0 Cape Verde.
http://www.nfa.org.na thats their website though its not possible to comment! What a shame to Namibia who can not wake up and realize that they will never match Zambia. Just this info The Namibia national football team, nicknamed the Brave Warriors, is the national team of Namibia and is controlled by the Namibia Football Association.
The Brave Warriors played their first international match against Mauritius on June 7, 1990 in Windhoek and their biggest win to date was the 8-2 victory over Benin on July 15, 2000 in Windhoek with biggest defeat, the 7-1 loss to Egypt in Cairo on November 8, 1996 coupled with another 8-2 defeat at Egypt on July 13, 2001 in Alexandria.
They have never qualified for the World Cup but have made two appearances in the African Nations Cup in 1998 and 2008. The most capped player of the Brave Warriors is retired midfielder Johannes Congo Hindjou with 69 caps and retired Gervatius Gerros Uri-Khob is the all-time top goalscorer with 12 goals.
ZAMBIA IS better than namibia by far and is better than morroco, tunisia, algeria and south africa they have been to three afcon finals and won once but the rest have two afcon titles and 1 title .
I MEANT TO SAY THEY HAVE BEEN IN THE FINALS TWICE AND WON ONCE .so goin by that zambia is better than anything namibia can say ok let namibia win afcon and see if it will happen infact it is almost twenty years when you last qualified to afcon 1998 .
How can Zambia be better than morroco, tunisia, algeria and south africa. Hahahaha.
namibia underating ZAMBIA !!!! Them they use sennior team Zambia U23 B team let them qualify in the next so dat we meet these minnors.
Zambia is a good team that can beat anybody on their day. but are not consistent nor have ever been consistent enough to qualify for even a Fifa world cup. Qualify for 2 or more world cups + plus your afcon then maybe we can start talking.
We are not close to being Giants at all and mainly because of how football is run in Zambia, too much corruption in FAZ. Our players are not groomed to the fullest because as soon as they start to develop, the anointed one wants to cash in and looks to identify another young player to cash in again instead of guiding them to succeed on a long term basis.
The Anointed one, the untouchable King Kalu. I loved him as a player and thought we had hit a lottery prize when he joint FAZ being that he was a player himself, I figured he would fix what was wrong in the house before, but boy oh boy was I wrong. Brother, just wants to be bossy, leads with a remote control, nobody’s way but his, looking out for his wife with the way contracts are awarded, corruption scandals with FIFA, the dirty laundry list goes on and on and everybody is ok with it. Man, no wonder the Chinese are coming to our country and shoot up our people for complaining about their hard earned wages, but then walk free. Just a whole bad mindset for my people there that are content with Mediocrity and Zambia is mediocre and not a Giant, so lets help the West African Giants prepare for the world cup and quit running our mouths here by fooling ourselves here claiming that Zambia is Giant. Was? Yes, Now? Just pretenders and that’s all to it. Call me whatever you want, it a free world after all.
Yes Zambian is a giant by African standards. The CAF and FIFA rankings can testify. Besides Zambia’s record says it all. They might have failed to get to the world cup but that does not mean they are not giants – after all not all teams that have played at the world cup are giants.
It is unfortunate that some people (Namibian coach)see Zambia not as a giant based on their team’s result against Zambia. That cannot be the criterion of determining whether a team is a giant or not. In football a loss against a minnow is a possible thing.
How big a team is measured by their past achievements in competitive football at a higher level. Zambia has been to the Olympics. A Zambian team has won a club CAF sponsored cup before, Zambia has been to the finals of the Africa cup of Nations before , winning it once and coming out second and third in some editions. It is only right that we consider them a Giant because not many countries have this record.
One of Zambia’s own son has been African footballer of the year before. How many nations have achieved this feat since the inception of competitive football in Africa?
What makes people think Zambia is not a giant justifies the fact that they are a giant. If Zambia was a minnow the debate would not have been there. It is there because minnows are wondering why and how they have been able to match and defeat the giant……but that is not a feat that is only found in the bracket of impossibilities. There are reasons for it. Rebuilding is one. The other could be team selection issues based one reasons .Individual cannot determine how big Zambia is. The record……………the history does that.
My simple measure is..we are not a top 5 team in Africa. Not even top Ten.
“One of Zambia’s own son has been African footballer of the year before.” We need consistence and produce more and if not winning the award, atleast have nominees, but Since Kalu, nobody talks about Zambian players. 2012 we heard CK11, Kalaba, Mayuka, And Sunzu, but then reality set in and they all faded. In the meantime, change the channels whenever Champions league or EPL is going on and just by hearing the commentaries you know such and such is from Ivory coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal or Freaking Cameroon(I hate this country).
Why mention the Olympics which was 30 years ago. Some African countries have been to the olympics consistently and even won it. And then we are not even talking Youth World Cups. Any team could have done something once, the proof is in the repeat of which Afcon qualification is only it. Nothing else not African football of the year.
Kay hummer and John are you using this argument to prove every point they want to make. This argument is fundamentally flawed, Zambia is not a giant(look around you), and kay hummer and johns points are based on imagination. Not even very good imagination or knowledge for that matter. What these guys think is important is mostly hardly important but they never learn, they like to talk loud.
80 min: Angola 1-3 South Africa.
Giants are Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroun, Ivory Coast, Egpty.
Zambia is a consistency non giant, second tier team. Fact.
I am Zambian.
I like that comment. We need a like button on this site. Lol
This my point as well.
The questionable many countries have achieve Zambia’s feat ?’is critical.
Giants for me : Ghana,Egypt, Nigeria,Cameroon, Ivory coast , 2nd tier teams: Algeria ,Tunisia,South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, Congo Dr, Average teams: Senegal, Mali. the rest are just unworthy to even take notice of.
The question ‘ how many countries match Zambia’s record ‘ is critical.
as bloggers with brains have rightly said. we are a giant in african football. we have won afcon before and been to countless editions. thats wat sets us apart from minows like namibia.
Namibia Namibia whom do u think u are? if u beat chipolopolo made of local players u think u are beta than zed overnight fools what have u arcieved in yo football history? I bet if u will even make it to the group stage in these WC and I wish that u meet chipolopolo in a afcon or world cup qualifies. all yo lives u had never tested victory over zambia and u beat a locally based on penalties two times and u think u can match us fools.
Zambia used to be a giant between 1980-1996, despite us nt winning any afcon during tht tym, th team usd to beat countries like eypt, Ghana, CIV, Nigeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria etc. #we are th 7th best perfoming team at afcon behind 1.Egypt, 2. Ghana 3. Cameroon. 4. Nigeria. 5. CIV. Nd 6.DRC. T will take years for us to go back to th Giant status tht we had . Most african Teams no longer fear playing against us.
U only mention when u beat Ghana an CIV but don’t mention they also beat u. Double standards in ur analysis
Namibians don’t be funny, why are you not at chan? Can you grow up….what do you have to show in african that you play soccer apart from I think 2 cosafa trophies? And how may cosafa trophies do we have us zambians the chipolopolo can you behave yourselves and wait untill you stop putting on dypers may be you can start making those silly coments……how many afcons have you played? We are giants we are the chipolopolo we are just rebuilding ofcourse we need to put our house in order FAZ, we soccer fans we need to support chipolopolo, criticise and defend wen its. Necessary……Namibia too small to. Be comparing yourselves with chipolopolo may be mauritias, madagascar inter alia are your match. Looking forward for sundays game good luck zambia good luck chipolopolo, we are “CHIPOLOPOLO”
We are not giants please. Namibia is better than us, as there B side have beaten us 3 times this year. Zambia have more local players in their starting line ups who have suffered humiliation by the Namibians this year. Anyway congrats to the Black Stars for holding Comoros to a goal less draw.
Guys stop!!!! u can’t just put Ghana as giants in African football no way, not at all. Ghana is an average team and will always be like that period!!! nothing to show for in 36yeas tha have past and yet u want to say that they are giants!!
Small boy from stinking Lusaka shut your beak.
U piece of shit u think u can compare big fat Lusaka to that shit hole u call Okra or Accra watever!
yes congrats to ghana for holding comoros.kikikikikiko
Miracles happen, just like the miracles that took place in Gabon 2012.
If Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, CID are really African giants why have they not reached the finals or at least semi final at senior fifa tournament? Egypt can be a giant if it reaches a semi final stage at the whole world that is if it qualify. Those qualifications to the world events are questionable and your call yourselves ‘Giants’.Ghana can also pull a surprise if they humble themselves, they have what it takes. They don’t have to complain each time the referee’s decision is against them.As for the Nigerians they are desplined, talented but lack a fighting spirit this also applies to CID. All these teams are better than us but they are favoured by CAF to represt Africa that is why don’t they perform well at WC tournaments to be called African giants. If this trend will not stop at CAF then we are in the same tier.
if ghana is to come to zambia we can dismantle them
were is bodosqi. Swaziland is holding naija 0:0
Where are those Namibians to put this Zambians in their place, muhahahahamuhaha
Kanalelo(Namibian Coach) is both arrogant and ignorant. He must undestand that that the team his small boys have been beating is of locally based players and not the real team. Therefore it is an insult to qualify our pedigree on the basis that they have beaten us 3 times this year. I don’t know if it is the name zambia or the team and what namibia and zambia play for that matters.
In Angola we went for practice and not the results, that’s what is important to me. We were preparing for Sudan and not useless namibia. Ba zambia please don’t judge your team on results that come from such tournaments as the one in Angola, they don’t have any effect on any of our rankings.
Zambia is still one of the giants in Africa football. Like it or hate it,that’s the bitter truth for doubting thomases like Kanalelo.
FT Swaziland 0:0 Nigeria.
bodosqi where are u????
Mayuka has just scored in a cup match in France. Should zambia get their house in order with regards selection I think we are going to this world cup I can feel it in my veins. We have too many strikers now. Kalengo is red hot.
Zambia won’t be seeded in the next round and could be easily paired with Cape Verde, Cameroon,Nigeria, This is why FIFA rankings are so important. Ivory coast, Algeria,Ghana, Senegal, Carpe Verde ,will be seeded.
still a giant.Zambia has played a number of afcon.in the past five years we have managed to qualify all the teams to the afcon including u 17 girls to the world cup. in 2012 we were the champions of africa,we are among the few teams that have recorded positive away results in the qualifier both afcon and world cup. it’s only that we as humans we don’t appreciate what we have.
#Chipolopolo Die Hards…………
Zambian striker Emmanuel Mayuka returned to the Metz squad following the injury he picked up 5 weeks ago and scored the first goal for Metz in their 3-1 Coupe de France win over Montceau Bourgogne FC. Midfielder Yeni Ngbakoto completed the business for Metz by grabbing a brace whicj ensured they moved on to the next stage of the competition.
Good for Mayuka, We’ll need him in the near future, our team should be boosted by the seasoned players like him.
Gentlemen, what has Ghana done to be considered as a status in African football,it won Afcon Cup some 30 years and it drawing with comoros.Senegal and Mali has never won Afcon, but if you look around their player allover the world. What i am saying is even if Zambia has never been to the world cup,it is one of the African soccer giants because at one time it has beaten Ghana,Cameroon,Senegal,Egypt, Ivory coast, Morocco and many other teams in African.
U retarded moron
Ghana has been to the late stages of many Afcons, Word Cup quater finalists. Ghana has several youth World Cups. Ghanas players have reached the top levels of the game in Europe.
Namibians r too junior 2 talk about football jst coz they won a ka COSAFA. We r still giants even tho we can’t get a sponsor 4 our kit lol. We set a standard we’ve failed 2 maintain aftr Afcon 2012 . In 2013 afcon we wr favourites,2015 afcon underdogs God knoz wt will b @ 2017. We haven’t been consistent aftr 2012 thts y pipo say it was a fluke, lyk Greece aftr euro 2004 the only difference is that we have a gud history (CV) in african football. So namibians shud SHUT UP!!!!
Thats how young Zambia started talking big after one afcon win
gud 4 mayuka
Zambia is an African Footballing Giant or a Footballing Power House! It has it’s challenges but anyone approaching Zambia lightly will suffer the consequences like many others have already. Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria and IV are also giants with greater success. The record for Zambia like one good ‘Sly’ said ‘speaks for itself’! Numbers or statistics rarely lie, let’s use them rather than our opinions! Zambia is a True Power House that few African Countries wouldn’t want to meet early-on in any tounerment! Shalom!
Zambia is a Footballing power house and a Giant whether u like it or not, u Namibians….
Condolences to all families affected in yesterdays attacks at a stadium in france. It was during france v germany friendly.
Can some one please provide statistics on top five qualifiers to the last twenty Afcon editions, those r the Giants of African football!
Include the qualification to the world cup as well, in addition to qualification to the AFCON.
Egypt are the real giants and kings of African football. They have won the AFRICON CUP in the past when participating team were 4 or 6 and in recent times wen participating teams are 16.Seconded by Nigeria and Cameroun who won it (Africon Cup) when teams were atleast 8 or 12 and now 16. teams.Ghana,CIV,Zambia,Tunisia,Morroco,Congo,Algeria, and south Africa are third from Egypt.Ghana could have been near Egypt but they have not won it in recent times, they won it wen they were 4 or 6 or 8.But Ghana recent performance is good but they are not pragmatic or when its needed most they fail to win and people will not be happy by performance only.Under 17,20,and 23 achievement are not added to the senior team,Zambia FIFA ranking would have been in top 10.Qualifying to the World cup does not make any team to be giants in Africa, but it should make you giants in the world.Win the world cup,we should be talking of African beating the likes of Brazil,Agertine,Spain,Italy,Germany, and so on at will and total dominance.
I disagree with you, qualification to the world cup should be considered when talking about about giants. How can you only consider qualification/winning afcon only? To qualify to the world cup is not an easy feat and you have to be a good footballing nation to make it the world cup, which has failed. You’re being selective now.
Zamfoot you have deleted information.Third teams teams after egypt are:ghana, zambia, civ, algeria, moroco, tunisia, south africa and congo dr.
Just Something Different
Zambia host Sudan on Sunday in Ndola looking to complete the job and advance to the final group qualifying stage of the Russia 2018 World Cup.
George Lwandamina’s side enjoys a 1-0 lead from the first leg match played on November 11 away in Karima.
Lwandamina has however warned that Sudan must be treated with extreme caution as both sides will be playing on a better surface after Zambia overcame a dusty patch at Karima Stadium to scrap a vital away victory by the lone goal.
“It wont be easy they are wounded and we have to approach it with the seriousness it deserves,” Lwandamian said.
Collins Mbesuma and Winston Kalengo are again expected to lead Zambia’s attack with the latter searching for his sixth goal for Zambia in 2015.
Kalengo found the target in the first leg last Wednesday while Mbesuma’s work-rate was the centerpiece of Zambia’s character on the night in Karima.
However, a better performance is expected from captain and midfielder Rainford Kalaba following a lackluster showing in the first leg before making way for Spencer Sautu in the 82nd minute.
Meanwhile, Sudan coach Hamdan Hamad remains hopeful they can turnaround the results despite the pressures of playing away.
“It will be very difficult but we will try to fight and we will try and tell our players to fight for the game because there is no other way we have lost and we have to fight hard. It is a very important game for us,” Hamad said.
Winner over both leg will advance to the group stage qualifiers where Africa’s five representatives at the 2018 finals in Moscow will be decided.
Thanks Billy. What time is kick off boss

Thanks man. Hope I’ll be able to find a link
What makes a team a gaint in African football?
When it comes to winning Medals, Some say Zambia and Egypt
When it comes to world cup some say Ghana and CIV
When it comes minnows some people here are bashing an improved Namibia side
But when it comes to consistency
it is purely CIV and Ghana at the moment. Nothing like Nigeria and Cameroon.
It doesnt matter whether an Afcon was won in the last century or this January because time flies. And oh Zambias Afcon is turning obsolete by the minutes. So shut some damn mouths Winning Afcon is for the records but performing consistently and having players in Europe makes u attractive.
For Gods sake Afcon and world cup is for a damn month. But when you play regularly week and out. The whole world would watch you on Dstv and Skysports
You should had seen how the Comoros players were struggling for the jerseys of the Ayews and Gyan. now mention which zambia player shirt the minnows of Namibia would rash for
ZAMBIA IS NOT AN AFRICAN GIANT AT THE MOMENT.
Chung Cha Hoo!
Kkkkkkkk!
Please this topic is becoming boring. We need a new topic. I have posted an article above from LT.
@Chu let your Namibia play Zambia on competitive basis, you will see how you will be beaten.Be it at home or away.Egypt doesn’t have so many players in Europe but they are the best in term of performance and Afcon record.Senegal and ivory coast have more players in Europe but they don’t have a better record than Zambia where Afcon is concerned.Ghana lost to 1-0 at levy mwanawasa in Ndola and Zambia lost 2-1 in kumasi.Head to head who is better.Chu you are just minnow where football matters are concerned including your Namibian coach.By the way, Namibia is not even qualifying to the group stage of Russia 2018 world and it can be miracle if they qualify.
@nazo,uor talking of records here is subjective, clarify to us what is it zambia have more than CIV,is it by number of appearances or medals/cups won in AFCON or WC. u were the same guys who had trumpeted over rooftops of beating GH twice in a yr to be an unassailable achievement,so how dare u have the audacity to condemn Namibia’s coach of bragging to beating u pepo not once, not twice but trice in a year?If u believe miracles happen in football, then overly accept that 2012 was by miracle not by might or its FLUKE period.
LOLx Nazo I am Ghanaian not Namibian. I stay in Michel Camp near Tema in kpone katamanso constituency of the Greater Accra region
I Coast have won only 2 afcon titles both through penalties.
Does consistency make you a champion? If so Ghana and CIV would have been champions in last 5 years or 10 years.
Tanzania tearing apart Algeria defense, but they can’t finish. 3 clean goals and they fail to score. amazing
http://www.yalla-shoot.com/live/6878/tanzania-vs-algeria.html
@TC Soccerman, thanks for the link bro.
Many thanks for the link tc
Finally its a goal
Tanzania 2-0 Algeria
This Mbwana Samatta from TP Mazembe is really a dangerous player. Wow, I can’t believe that Algeria is being torn apart by Tanzania.
What a player this Samatta is. A clean, skilled player that isn’t forcing matters. Plain natural skill.
Tanzania 2-1 Algeria, 71st minute.
yeah Algeria’s first goal was offside though. But the big boys always get favors.
FT: Tanzania 2-2 Algeria. Tanzania will only have themselves to blame. They could have won this match by a large margin had they taken their clear cut chances.
Namibian coach said ‘Zambia is no longer a giant anymore,’
Ladies(if any) and gentlemen the question of whether Zambia is a giant or not is good but let me draw attention to the comments of the Namibian coach.
‘Zambia is no longer a giant anymore,to me it simply mean that this coach knew Zambia was a giant but didn’t understand the point of Zambia’s departure from being a giant, he thought by his team beating Zambia these three times meant they had replaced Zambia on the status of being giant- No sir…….Go through what Zambia have….. achieve….win and kill the other giants you still consider giants.
So in short the coach knows Zambia is a giant. I rest my case.
lol
Who is the the football powerhouse in Africa????Check this out, in the last 20 editions, here are the number of times the”TOP” teams have appeared!!!!Ivory Coast-17 times, Zambia-16 time, Egypt-15 times, Nigeria-15 times, Ghana-15 times, Algeria-15 times Tunisia-13 times, Morocco-13 times.
During this time, Egypt has won 5 titles, were no. 4 on 4 occassions, reached quarter finals 4 times, were eliminated in group stages 4 times. Cameroon 1st(4times), 2nd(2 times), 4th(1 time), QF(4times), Groups(4times). Nigeria 1st(3times), 2nd(4times), 3rd(6times), qf(1 time), groups(1 time). Ghana 1st(2 times), 2nd(3times), 3rd(1 time), 4th(3times), qf(3times), groups(4times). Ivory Coast 1st(2times), 2nd (2times), 3rd(2times), 4th(1time), QF(3times), groups(7times!!!). Zambia-1st(1 time), 2nd(1 time), 3rd(3times), qf(2times) groups(9times!!!!!).
I guess this gives both the quantitative and qualitative magnitude of AFCON capacity. I m sure for top teams, you cant look anywhere other than the teams above.
And for Comparison with Namibia, they have qualified to AFCON for a total of …..2 TIMES, and their best achievement has been group stage elimination, scoring a total of 9 goals, conceeding 18, winning non of their 6 games at the finals, drawing 2 and losing 4. I guess Namibia is a giant toooooo!!!!!!!Question is over who!!!!!!
ZAMFOOT Updates kaili. wake up from your slumber????
Lol, Zamfoot has gone to “sleep”. They will wake up tomorrow for a big one.
Rainford Kalaba to miss tomorrow’s game against Sudan due to illness. It is reported that Kalaba has a fever and he has been given a 7-day rest. In his place Israel based Evans Kangwa is likely to start. Dauti Musekwa also has been ruled out due to injury.
Enough of this giant story let’s hear it frm Zamfoot now. Ba editor thr a lot of stories u can giv us learn 2 research or maybe nachilila ni weekend special.

Zagwa check your statistics on Zambia could not be right, because I thought, 1974 and 1994 we were second, ca someone correct me if I am wrong?
This is a good lesson to our coach. Dont send a weak team to Namibia. Next time whip their assess by a big margin. Which Namibian team has coached Zambia?
No we are not giants. Can’t even win anything these days. And our U-23 squad….eh… they are supposed to be the future talent!!!!
Shame.
