Zambia Vs Mali(Afcon 1994)….final score 4-0.

I think Zedi Saileti scored the first goal. The jersey was ugly and we wore it in the final against Nigeria led by Yekini. Some of the players were: Harrison Chongo/Wawa, Elijah Litana, Evans Sakala, Malitoli bros, Andrew Tembo, Kalu, Kapambwe Mulenga, Mwanza(GK)

  1. That can’t be burkina Faso. It looks older than 1996 to. On another note there is a serious crisis in zambian football. Recent results at continental tournaments are disgraceful. We have failed to win a single game against serious opponents at caf level.

  2. happy sichikolo, bubble and jersy 10 is mali danger man coulebaly who was outmarked by the huge litana and wawa chongo. he didn’t even finish the game. we beat them 4-0.

  3. Those were players whose physical presence (physique) would inject fear into the opposition. It’s high time that we realize this. We need players who have eaten nshima and cassava, not rice.

    • Hmmm ba Vinkubala. Happy Sichikolo was a shorty, and don’t even get me started on my unsung hero John Lungu. The only physically intimidating players in the 1994 squad were Elijah Litana, and Mordon Malitoli, maybe Harrison Chongo and Zeddy Saileti. The rest were average sized.

Just compare them to the Nigeria team in the final, now that was a physically intimidating side.

      • Hnmmmmm Ba Positive, will you be saying the same in next 15 years about:
        – Boyd Mkandawire
        – Chepesi
        – Lubambo
        – Sate Sate
        – Mukuka Mulenga
        – Ba Kalaba

        • Nostra, I am not doing that, but to come here and make it sound like we had body builders on our team bufi.

They were bigger in stature, but no one looked at Zambia and thought, we are about to be overpowered physically. It was teams like Nigeria of 1994 that bulldozed teams out of the way, look at Yekini, Amokachi, Oliseh, that coach, even Rufai…that team looked like they could play soccer then walk onto a Rugby field right after.

  4. You guys come on. That’s 1994 game against Mali in the semi final which Zambia won 4-0.

Number 12 in the background is Kenneth “Bubble” Malitoli, while making the tackle is John Lungu. You can see from the chest logo that that is the Mali flag and they are the only ones we played who had a player named Coulibaly. Also John Lungu wore shirt number 15 which is slightly visible and if I recall he was one of the few players on the team who wore undershorts.

What an emotional roller coaster that AFCON was.

  5. 1994 v mali 4-0 john lungu tackling and malitoli looking on, simple as that. Why people are saying 1996 when the title says 1994 is behold me lol

  6. This one i can tell you exactly, lol. Mali Zambia 4-0, goals litana(8) Saileti(32) Kalu(47) K Malitoli(74). I think wearing jersey 15 is John Lungu. substituted in 77th for Tenant Chilumba. Man of the match Kalu.

    • Andrew Tembo wasn’t there in 1994. The backup keeper was Martin Mwamba who actually played in the game against Mali because Phiri was injured.

    • The jersey wasnt ugly ,it was a new adidas design with an a new attractive logo. The Malians could only be dressed in an old Adidas design

  8. People zamfoot has given us a clue that it was afcon 94 but you still say 96 you being as pathetic as the current coaches and the lads ,that is afcon 94 and Mali had just come back since their last appearance at 72 and were firing from all cylinders with their danger man coulibaly but we wired them 4 to nothing but them Mali has been consistance with all age groups unlike us who now from being pathetic to something else now.
