Green Buffaloes Women FC kept the pressure on league leaders ZESCO Ndola Girls with a dominant 4-0 victory over already relegated Chipata Girls in the ZPL Women Super League on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Konkola Blades Queens strengthened their survival hopes with a 2-0 win over struggling YASA Queens, while Trident Queens needed a stoppage-time penalty to rescue a point against Indeni Roses.
At Reiz Arena, Buffaloes were frustrated in the opening half before eventually breaking the deadlock after a lengthy interruption early in the second period.
Assistant referee consultations and protests from the Chipata bench delayed play for six minutes after Natasha Kasema’s cross appeared to cross the line with the goalkeeper carrying the ball over. The goal was eventually awarded in the 50th minute.
Once ahead, Buffaloes took full control.
Veteran striker Rachael Nachula doubled the lead in the 64th minute with a superb strike from over 20 yards before Agness Ondya marked her first senior goal for the club seven minutes later after recently earning promotion from Young Buffaloes Women.
Agness Phiri completed the rout in the 79th minute as Buffaloes moved within two points of leaders ZESCO Ndola Girls, who still have a game in hand.
In Chililabombwe, Chisomo Banda and Mary Chilundu were on target as Konkola Blades Queens secured an important 2-0 victory over YASA Queens.
The result leaves YASA dangerously close to the relegation zone and they could fall to 15th place if ZISD Women FC defeat Luyando Foundation Girls on Sunday.
In Kalumbila, Elizabeth Chishimba converted a stoppage-time penalty to earn Trident Queens a 1-1 draw against Indeni Roses after Ngosa Chabwe had given the visitors an early lead from the spot in the 14th minute.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Women and Nkwazi Queens played out a goalless draw at Nationalist Ground.
The action continues on Sunday with Kamfinsa Blue Eagles Queens hosting Red Arrows Women in Kitwe, while Green Eagles Women face a stern test against leaders ZESCO Ndola Girls.
