Gamphani Lungu hits hat-trick in eleven-goal thriller despite Siwelele defeat

Chipolopolo Boys utility player Gamphani Lungu delivered a standout individual performance with a hat-trick, but it was not enough to prevent Siwelele FC from suffering a dramatic 7-4 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in Saturday’s Betway Premiership clash.

The high-scoring encounter saw Sundowns strengthen their grip at the top of the table as Miguel Cardoso’s side produced an attacking masterclass at home.

Mamelodi Sundowns raced into an early lead through Teboho Mokoena before Tashreeq Matthews struck twice in the opening half. An own goal from Nyiko Mobbie further compounded Siwelele’s troubles as the hosts overwhelmed the visitors with relentless attacking pressure.

Despite Sundowns’ dominance, Lungu remained a bright spark for Siwelele throughout the contest. The Zambian international pulled one back in the 30th minute after capitalising on a defensive mistake before calmly finishing from close range.

Sundowns continued to pile on the pressure, with Bryan Leon adding to the scoring before the break to hand the hosts a commanding advantage at half-time.

Lungu, however, refused to let the game drift away completely. The versatile attacker grabbed his second goal shortly after the restart, exposing gaps in the Sundowns backline with a composed finish on the counter-attack.

Bryan Leon went on to complete his own hat-trick for the Brazilians in an entertaining end-to-end contest, while Relebogile Mokhuoane also found the net for Siwelele.

Lungu completed his hat-trick in the closing stages to cap an impressive personal display in an otherwise difficult evening for his side.

The 27-year-old has now registered five goal contributions in his last three matches, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
