Red Arrows Football Club players yesterday received a shot and morale booster when the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) Commander, Lt Gen Oscar Msitu Nyoni, paid a surprise visit to the team during a training session at Nkoloma Stadium ahead of Sunday’s big clash against Power Dynamos at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Lt Gen Nyoni urged the squad to remain focused, disciplined and fully committed. He encouraged the players to enjoy the game as they have done in other matches but treat it as a final
operation on the football front line.
Meanwhile, in a rare show of camaraderie, the high spirited Air Force Commander joined the players in singing gospel and boostele songs before holding an open talk with them and the technical bench, a moment that mirrored a briefing before battle deployment.
The Air Force Commander also reminded players that they were champions at heart and as such, they needed to remember the significance of the match. He said that representing Red Arrows and the Air Force demanded character, responsibility as well as results, especially when it matters most, adding that execution defines outcome.
And speaking on behalf of the players, team Captain Saddam Yusuf Phiri, thanked the Commander for visiting the team and lifting its spirit before such a high profile match. Phiri reaffirmed the players’ commitment to discipline, teamwork and giving everything on the pitch.
He promised the Air Force Commander that they will fight for the badge, the Air Force and supporters and that they will treat the final as a critical mission to be delivered in answering the Commanders call and directive.
The Air Force Commander, accompanied by Heads of Department and the Director of Sports, was received by the Red Arrows President, Col Moses Kambimbi and members of the Club Executive before addressing the players and technical bench.
Red Arrows will face Power Dynamos in Ndola in the Absa Cup final this Sunday in a season-defining clash between two giants of Zambian football.
