    • But why our current Chipolopolo look so “malnourished?”, is it the general economy? Look at those guys, all played in local league, and still looked healthy-strong, stamina etc. They look even more cleaner than our “professionals”. I don’t even see any crazy hair styles in that picture, not aya tumona these days, and we keep blaming ati FAZ should change jersey, kanshi mimonekele fye yama player.

  2. I believe any coach with a good soccer philosophy chose players to fit in his plan. That explains why big teams are always ticking. The coaches search for missing links in their teams until they find such. Local or foreign coaches that is what we needed to do even as the Chipolopolo. Go out there and search players not based on name, tribe or league the player is. Look at that picture….. the coaches found them and they fitted because they were the right material. Having said this could someone please educate me coaching on-line courses…

  3. zamfoot where is our latest fifa rankings? becoz kenya risen seven places and are now on number 116 in the world.

    • Thanks [email protected] can imagine we still had formidable players who could not make the cut like Harrison Bwalya at Ndola United,’Soweto’Banda,Lucky Msiska ,Bornwell Muma,Edwin kanyanta and others too many to mention.

    • Too young to be aware of the vicissitudes of lif & that’s why u usually spill out nothing sensible. When u grow up, u will reason like a man.

    • No doubt. Your infantile ideas are a reflection of your age (not blaming your age per se) BUT your maturity level. People younger than u may express mature opinions than you. Could be environmental determinism, cultural background or pure innate stupidity. Make your bet.

    • Yes, because 71st position cannot, indeed will not, exempt you from the play offs. Only three countries: ALGERIA, IVORY COAST & GHANA are exempted because of their pedigree (higher rankings).

  4. Some us were not yet born that time but i have read Dennis Liwewe’s Soccer in Zambia book and also googled Zambia’s past afcons since 1974. I may not know them bt have read somethin on them. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER,know your history thts why there is internet. A challenge 2 my fellow youths.

  5. John kalusa got his nickname ‘Libya’ after featuring in this Afcon tournerment.Shinde must have been very young to be in the same squad as willie phiri-Nchanga Rangers,Ghost Mulenga-Arrows,Emmy Musonda-GBFC and Hard tackling Michael Musonda of PDFC.

  6. This is the first time we could have won the AFCON. The squad started badly by losing the first game under some local Zambian local (now late) coach. A meeting was held immediately after the loss and it decided that 2 senior players take over the coaching of the team and these are late Willie Phiri, and late Alex Chola. The local late coach was sidelined and Zambia won the next 2 games to proceed (Terms of reference late Liwewe’s book “Its a gaoool”.)

late Ghost Mulenga was at his best and almost unbeatable. In the semis Zambia played the host nation Libya and Peter Black, abaleya put Zambia in front as early as the 10th minute. Libya attacked and attached but Ghost was unbeatable. Sensing danger Libya resorted to all kind of dirty play and in the second a libyan player punched Ghost Mulenga in the face during a corner kick, Ghost was replaced by then GBFC goalkeeper Micheal Spinks Bwalya and he went on to allow 2 silly goals. That is how we lost

For the 3 place game Zambia beat Nigeria 3-0 with Willie Phiri scoring the last goalkeeper

This was one of the best teams, mark my words. I watched all of these guys

    Cheers

  7. These were men! John Kalusa because of his splendid performance at this tournament got a nickname of “Libya!” He now became John “Libya” Kalusa! I miss “Ba Russian Tanker” Jericho Shinde and Alex “Computer” Chola!

  8. Kampinda, you are right, we were very strong on the ball, and field as evidenced by Mordon Malitoli (“Ba Mordo”)and Kenneth “Bubble” Malitoli, Jericho, Peter Kaumba, Funny Hangunyu, Lucky “Muchofe” Msiska, Jack Chanda, Golden “Abaleya Jerusalem” Kazika, “Big” Mike Chabala, Lanky but strong Fighton Simmukonda, Eston “Yellowman” Mulenga, Kelvin Mutale, etc.

  9. 1982 in my opinion was the peak of Zambian football. All Division 1 or Premier League teams were very strong with mature great players. Rivalry among teams was at its peak and supporters for teams traveled in large numbers especially among traditional enemies. Stadiums were fully packed and commentaries on radio were lively. We miss them days!

  10. 1. YOU ARE RIGHT; STADIAS WERE FILLED TO CAPACITY BUT NOW PEOPLE WATCH GAMES ON TV.
    2. NOWADAYS PLAYERS GO FOR PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL ELSEWHERE. SO FAR SO GOOD.
