Scouting Report: Ngoma, Sautu have potential

The two under-20 players Patrick Ngoma and Spencer Sautu, who have been included in Zambia’s 27-man provisional squad have a bright future ahead of them if they stay grounded, Zambia’s only European football scout has said.

There has  been a lot of talk in the last 24 hours after the duo were named in the provisional whether they merit selection.

“Those two lads have a lot of potential but Ngoma is the one to watch and follow closely. He is a special talent,” a scout from ZamFoot Sports Group [ZSG] said.

“Our scouting department has been following him closely in the last 3 years and the boy has improved immensely. Remember, he needed to add goals to his game but he is slowly doing that.

“The good thing about Patrick is that he knows where he needed to improve. But just like any other youngster patience is key.

The scout who spotted Emmanuel Mbola, Nathan Sinkala and Chisamba Lungu, and recommended them to European agents also said Ngoma is European bound.

“Patrick is between Harry Milanzi and Emmanuel Mayuka. Not only is he a bulldozer but he has pace and skilful as well as powerful.  Forget the football age, he is still a teenage. He is also aggressive, and can get physical. He can play out wide or as a lone striker. Strikers like him don’t come around that easily.

The Mtendere bred forward who is commonly referred as Dude scored 7 goals at the just ended Cosafa U20 tournament in Zimbabwe.

“When we [ZSG] sent Bruce Musakanya to FC Porto and Sate Sate to Switzerland, we got those reports how they fared and we have tried to learn from what the European market looks for in a young player.

“And for this, we [ZSG] can say Patrick could be the best Zambian striker in then next 2-3 years time if handled properly and stays grounded.

“It’s a big statement considering there’s Sate Sate around. Sate Sate is a natural goal-poacher but unfortunately these Europeans clubs are always looking for these big strikers who can hustle upfront. With Patrick he is robust and can also now score goals.

Sautu left Forest Rangers and didn't mind going to Choma and play for Green Eagles. He is being linked with moves to Power Dynamos and Zesco United.

“In terms of all round play, Patrick is better than Sate Sate but the Nkana striker is more prolific and teams play to win and goals make you win,” the scout noted.

While it’s easier to notice Ngoma’s strengths it is not that easy to appreciate Sautu.

“Spencer reminds us [ZSG] of Nathan Sinkala. He is one of those unsung hero but needs someone who will just watch his movement off the ball to appreciate the boy.

“In 2008, around October-November, we [ZSG] asked Herve Renard to recommend three to five under-20 players because Russian agents requested us to send them exciting youngsters. Renard said Henry Banda and Evans Musonda but we insisted on Chisamba and Nathan.

“It was easy to notice Chisamba but not Nathan, and even when things didn’t go as planned in Eastern Europe, he went to Israel on a six month loan but still the club opted not to sign him and they went for William Njobvu.

“That could be Spencer Sautu although he is a bit different to Nathan as he is more of an Isaac Chansa. Spencer covers a lot of ground. There was a season when Shadreck Malambo was unplayable at Red Arrows and that’s what Spencer needs to do to his game. So it can go either way for the boy. He is not Kalaba or Chisamba and he has to work harder than those skilful players.

So do they deserve to go to AFCON?

“Patrick Phiri took Emmanuel Mayuka in 2008 while Renard got Evans Kangwa in 2012. Brazil took Ronaldo in 1994 and Kaka at 2002 World Cup. Cameroon also did the same with Samuel Eto’o.

“We should do the same with Patrick Ngoma. He is gem….a unpolished diamond.

“As for Sautu not too sure but looking at our central midfield [Nathan, Kondwani Mtonga, Chisamba, Given Singuluma], we are a bit limited there. He should also make the trip but a tough call.

In addition to Musakanya, Sate Sate, Chisamba, Mbola, Nathan and most recently Lubambo Musonda, ZamFoot Sports Group [ZSG] have sent Rodger Kola, Felix Nyainde, Nyambe Mulenga, Jonas Sakuwaha, William Njobvu, Francis ‘Mr Reliable’ Given Singuluma, Stopilla Sunzu, Rodrick Kabwe, Stanley Nshimbi and Jimmy Ndhlovu for trials to Israel, Portugal, France and Eastern Europe.

ZSG also owns Zambia’s football online publication, Zamfootball.co.zm, one of the oldest websites in Zambia.

  1. I would like to take this opportunity to say that James chamanga is a very useless striker and should immediately be dropped and replaced with in form kola. When we played Niger in niamey chamanga was to blame for us failing to collect 3 points. Janza dropped him for the reverse fixture started Mayuka and we won 3-0. Janza and kalu must not play games with the fans. We will not accept anything less than the trophy in 2015. Therefore I ask them to drop Chamanga and call kola before they witness the anger of the fans.

  2. Sate Sate will be a flop at AFCON 2015. Am ready to bet anyone who cares to listen. He is just an average club player, African club for that matter. Not european standard. The only chance Sate had of playing pro was at Platinum. But somebody cheated him he was hot material. His rating will drop after Afcon, mark my words.

    • I.agree with you Slim.Zambian club officials are greedy.South Africa was a great opportunity for him. With his lack of physical presence,he will always have hard to break into Europe but the South African league would have him a chance to improve given the good facilities. Its a fact,we can’t build our attack around Him.

PwaaaaaaaaaH….Hahahahahahahahahahahaha, ala mwantekunya ati Sate Sate will flop at AFCON. Come on brother man why will you happy if he flops at AFCON? Is it because he refused that useless offer from a certain team we all well know? Brother man be patriotic and stop the hate. The boy has said he will leave a mark and you are hear cursing the poor boy who is defenseless on this blog. According to my measured opinion Sate Sate is far much better than Patrick Ngoma, if this young lad is better shows us the goals he scored in the league compared to Sate Sate thats what you saying, please on this one berg to be corrected. ZSG awesome stuff though! we appreciate the work you have been doing, why cant one of the founders for the ZSG try to challenge FAZ and Kalu for Presidency ,you are good marketers anyway. Lol

  3. Mayuuka should work hard during the tournament so that attract other clubs, otherwise he’s wasting his talent at Southampton which in the end is affecting the national team. Merry Christmas guys, stay blessed.

  4. CATCH THEM YOUNG. THE BOYS THEY HAVE ALREADY PROVED THEY ARE GOOD.MOST OF THEM ARE NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS.WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT THEM TO DO SO THAT YOU CAN TAKE THEM TO EUROPE.ITS EASY TO MARKET YOUNG STARS THAN OLD ONES.

  5. Nice info ba zamfoot. Could you also give us an insight of how many of the players you sent on trials actually impressed and were eventually signed?
