Southampton signs Dutch winger as Mayuka’s Saints future in doubt

England based striker Emmanuel Mayuka’s future at Southampton is in doubt after they  agreed a deal to sign Werder Bremen winger Eljero Elia on loan until the end of the season.

The Zambian forward has had cameo appearances off the bench but has failed to convince at St Mary’s Stadium and the

former Kabwe Warriors striker will need a good African Cup of Nations campaign to resurrect his future in England.

Mayuka’s only goal this season for club and country has come on international duty in the win over Niger.

The Netherlands international will join on 3 January and the transfer is likely to become permanent in the summer, at the time, Mayuka and Senegalese winger Sadio Mane will be preparing for the AFCON in Equatorial Guinea.

Speaking before the move was confirmed, Saints boss Ronald Koeman said: “He will be a good option.”

Ex-FC Twente and Hamburg man Elia made 33 appearances for Bremen last season.

  1. I posted this on the previous thread but Zamfoot deleted it. Anyway it’s fine.
Mayuka should leave So’ton at the end of the season. He should take the opportunity at afcon 2015 to impress. Teams might just come looking for him.

  2. Mayuka must play afcon 2015 like a possessed human being he will bought by a bigger club than southampton. That useless club has just wasted his time. I can’t wait for him to leave.

  3. I really feel sorry for Mayuka. I am not sure he will continue at So’ton after the end of this season. Here is the latest news on Mayuka.
