Southampton coach Ronald Koeman has decided to release Emmanuel Mayuka early this week for 2015 Africa Cup duty.
The Dutchman said he had enough cover in Mayuka’s position thus he would be the first of his three players who will be away on continental duty next month to be released.
Senegal midfielder Sadio Mane will be released after January 4 for Africa Cup duty while Japan defender Maya Yoshida will travel will travel to Australia for the 2015 Asia Cup on January 1.
“We will have three players who will play for the national teams. Mayuka will go now this weekend because we have more players available in that position,” Koeman stated on Southampton’s official website.
“I spoke to the national coach of Japan and Maya will stay until after the game against Arsenal .
And Zambia will regroup on December 26 in Johannesburg for the final phase of pre-2015 Africa Cup training camp and are expected back home after January 11 for their farewell reception.
Wow, this is just a slap in the face. Imagine kunchito your boss shows up and tells you can go ku weekend on Wednesday because we have enough people doing your job. Would you even enjoy? Anyway, Mayuka has to play this tournament like a man possessed like John put it.
It gives Janza enough time to gel the players in the team. Mayuka seems to be a bit lazy, he should fight for the ball all the time and should get help and work on his weight. His Southampton coach will be watching his games closely at AFCON.
Mandingo Very true, he should also learn to run away from defenders often times he doesn’t see much of the ball coz he’s always runing in areas closed by defenders!
This doesn’t matter southampton are just wasting his time anyway. They give him 10 minutes and play him on the wing when he is a striker. We have strikers who are wingers esp with African players who relies mostly on pace rather than clinical instincts and the coach has seen something with him that’s why he deployed him in that position!!
European football is not about positions but rather is about the style of the league and adaptability!! U can never fit in when u don’t adapt to the STYLE and looking critical at mayuka, he can fit perfectly in that position if onlybhe can adapt!
One thing about mayuka is that, the guy is mentally USED UP and he better ththand is about that time, he find solace in the Arabian league to build his financial status!!
A word to the wise is enough and the so called afcon cannot even help his cause!
Mayuka can’t play in any of the five top leagues in Europe ie German, France, italy, Spain & England. He went to france and failed terribly and we all know wht is happening at Soto. Maybe if he tried Holland, Portugal, Turkey, Switzerland and Danmark!
To be honest mayuka has been given a lot of time to perform but he has failed. We can not blame the coach here, that’s why we need kola or mulenga in the squad

10 or 20 minutes Mayuka has not shown signs of a striker who can score.. Let’s just be honest and accept the fact that he’s not good enough at the moment. I hope the other strikers in our AFCON squad will be on song ndaba relying on Mayuka si maningi mwee. There’s a reason Renard started to bench him. Koeman has given him more time than any coach ever did at SOTO and sadly Mayuka has not repaid the coachs faith. We wish him well at AFCON.
