Sakala’s Rangers through to Europa League final as Daka and Leicester fall short

Chipolopolo forward Fashion Sakala Jnr and his FC Rangers will be in Seville for the Europa League final on May 18 after seeing off RB Leipzig in the semifinals.

The Light Blues beat Leipzig 3-1 on Thursday and 3-2 on aggregate to qualify to the final.

On a night of incredible drama and passion under the Ibrox lights, first-half goals from James Tavernier and Glen Kamara had the stadium bouncing but Christopher Nkunku pulled one pack in the 71st minute to pull the aggregate score back to 2-2.

With just 10 minutes left, however, John Lundstram scored a goal which will be remembered forever, just like Nacho’s in Fiorentina back in 2008 to seal a place in the final.

Sakala came off the bench to replace Joe Aribo who bravely took the full force of Angelino’s freekick to his head and fell to the turf just before halftime.

In the UEFA Europa Conference League, Patson Daka was an unused substitute as The Jose Mourinho coached AS Roma side progressed to the final with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline following a 1-0 win over Leicester City in Rome thanks to a Tammy Abraham first half strike.

  1. Well done to Fashion Sakala. We are proud of you. We all thought Leicester would go far in Europe but behold Rangers have surprised us all the way to the Final with a chance to win it.

Tough luck to Patson and LCFC.
