“Every game matters” — Chalwe keeps Power focused in title push

By Angela Bambala Bwalya

Power Dynamos’ march towards a potential MTN Super League title defence faces another key test on Wednesday as they take on Nkwazi in a rescheduled Week 27 fixture at Edwin Imboela Stadium.

The league leaders, known as Aba Yellow, are aiming to extend their advantage at the summit, with momentum firmly on their side following a 2-0 victory over Nchanga Rangers that secured a place in the 2026 ABSA Cup semi-finals.

Despite the quick turnaround from cup to league action, second assistant coach Songwe Chalwe insists there has been no shift in approach.

“We take the game as it comes. I know we are coming from a cup game, but each game we play is important and the players know how important this game is,” Chalwe said.

Power Dynamos have built their campaign on consistency — both in preparation and mentality — and Chalwe was keen to stress that nothing changes, regardless of the occasion.

“We haven’t been stressing about anything. We are just working the way we’ve been working. All the games, we take them the same. You have to respect the game and your opponents and just do your best.”

He also remained deliberately guarded on team selection, pointing instead to the depth within the squad.

“I can’t talk about the team right now, but on the day of the game we will see because each and every player is ready for the task. Everyone is ready.”

Midfielder Daniel Adoko echoed that message, underlining a clear shift in focus back to league duties after their cup success.

“Right now we are fighting for the league. The ABSA game is done. Now we are back to the league. There is no more excitement — we just have to work hard and get the maximum points.”

Power Dynamos sit top of the table on 61 points and are unbeaten in their last 12 matches across all competitions — a run that has reinforced their status as favourites in the title race.

In contrast, Nkwazi find themselves in a battle at the other end of the standings. They are 14th on 30 points, just above the relegation zone, but arrive in confident mood after a 2-1 victory over NAPSA Stars. Their recent form — three wins and two draws from the last six — suggests they could yet prove stubborn opponents.

History, however, favours the visitors. Power Dynamos have won seven of the last ten meetings between the sides, with Nkwazi’s most recent victory in this fixture dating back to 2021. The reverse encounter earlier this season ended in a narrow 1-0 win for Aba Yellow.
