The Copper Princesses claimed a comfortable 2-0 win away on Friday in Kigali in the first leg of their First Round of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
First half goals from Precious Mwewa and Grace ‘Pogba’ Phiri were enough to seal a first win for the Carol Kanyemba coached side.
Precious Mwewa put Zambia in the lead in the 6th minute with a close range finish off a beautiful cross from Faith Kaunda.
Grace Phiri doubled the lead in the 19th minute with another close range finish using her pace to beat a defender after Natasha Kasema put the ball in her path.
Zambia had more chances to extend the lead but could not score more goals and 2-0 the match finished.
The second leg is set for Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on Wednesday. Tickets for Wednesday’s game are already on sale at K20, K50 and K100 VIP.
The winner over two legs will face DR Congo in the second round.
The winner of that tie will face the winner of the South Sudan vs Ethiopia/ Malawi vs Burundi tie.
