Renard names squad to face Zambia

COACH Hervé Renard has named a 25 locally based Ivorian side to face Chipolopolo in this weekend’s preparatory match to be played at the Heroes National Stadium in Lusaka.

This will be the first time the two sides will be meeting since the dramatic 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final in Libreville, Gabon where Zambia beat Ivory Coast 8-9 on penalties to win the first ever continental title under Renard.

But both sides will feature locally based players as the match is not on a FIFA sanctioned date except that it will be played to commemorate Zambia’s Golden Jubilee which would have been celebrated a day earlier.

It will also be the first time Renard and his assistant Patrice Beaumelle make a return to Zambia since joining the Elephants, who are expected to arrive in the country tomorrow. Renard and Beaumelle will also be honoured during the Jubilee celebrations for being part of Zambia’s 2012 AFCON winning team.

The Ivorian side has Diabagaté Seck (AFAD), Gbohouo Sylvain (Sewé Sport), Gbohouo Sylvain (Séwé Sport), Britto Dagou Willie (AS Denguélé), Diallo Ismael Jean (ES Bingerville), Ismael Diallo Jean (ES Bingerville), and  Késsié Franck Yannick (Stella Club).

Others are Angban Bekanty Victoirien (Chelsea FC), Ousmane Ouattara (Séwé Sport), Koné Ibrahim (Séwé Sport), Diaby Ibrahim (SOA), Koffi Christian (Séwé Sport), Ngoh Brou Manasse (SOA) and Doumbia Idrissa (ES Bingerville).

Meanwhile, the Chipolopolo were yesterday expected to regroup in Lusaka ahead of the match.
Coach Honour Janza has summoned 26 local players for the match.

The squad has goalkeepers Satchmo Chakawa (Green Eagles), Danny Munyau (Red Arrows) and Joshua Titima (Power Dynamos).

Defenders are Rodrick Kabwe and Fackson Kapumbu (Zanaco), Kapota Kayawe and Boyd Mkandawire (Napsa Stars), Christopher Munthali and Donashano Malama (Nkana), Alex Mwamba (Power), Adrian Chama (Green Buffaloes) and Nyambe Mulenga (Zesco).

The midfielders are Richard Kasonde and Julius Situmbeko (Power), Spencer Sautu (Green Eagles), Bruce Musakanya, Patrick Ngoma and Shadreck Malambo (Arrows), Charles Zulu (Zanaco), Larry Bwalya (Nchanga Rangers) and Fwayo Tembo (unattached).

  1. The purpose of this friendly been preparation for what? i remember some 1 at the corupt faz saying ivory coast wil bring a strong squad. lack of forsight perharps. ? in the interim, what wil the crap coach janza learn from this?

  2. I agree with you Stumpy, this is a useless match, maybe it is helping Renard discover young talent for his team, as for Zambia, this coach is clueless and corrupt Faz won’t dare bring in Keshi that would turn Zambia into a feared African Powerhouse. Mxxxm.

  3. Maybe the game is meant to keep Fwayo Tembo fit since he is clubless. Mr. Janza, please remove this player from the team, he adds no value. All he does is mapulukutu and running aimlessly and you call this football. If he is one of the best we have, then football has really finished in Zambia.
When Rena was couch for Zambia, anybody with a big body was national team material to him. No matter how useless you were, you stood a better chance of playing in the national team under Rena than a talented small body player. That is how he left out many small bodied good players in his team. Now, Mr. Janza sir, I hope this is not your strategy as well. Maradona had a small body and so does Messi so give chance to any good player no matter their size

  4. You that is smart Mr. Paradox what’s the point of playing satesate when we know that Chamanga will come and playing when Zambia is playing afcon qualifiers. And what is Fwayo doing with his Chilenje soccer?

Word reaching the Siya crew is that Mpumalanga Black Aces have warned Collins Mbesuma that he needs to improve his fitness levels.
The 30-year-old striker has featured in all of Aces’ PSL games this season, starting four and coming off the bench on four occasions, and it seems that the club aren’t 100% pleased with his current state.
Mbesuma has gotten on the scoresheet for AmaZayoni since moving from Orlando Pirates, but his single goal against SuperSport United from 405 minutes of league football isn’t deemed to be a good enough return.
As reported in the latest issue of Soccer Laduma, the crew are led to believe that the Zambian international has been told that he needs to make sure that he improves his levels of fitness if he wants to play a regular role in Clive Barker’s team for the rest of the season.

    • Yaba ba Mbesuma. It is natural though for age to have an effect on someones fitness. Mbesuma needs to understand that as you get older, you have to work twice as hard to be as fit as when you were younger. Especially when you hit 30. He should also have the discipline of understanding that his body is his livelyhood therefore it needs to be treated like a finely tuned sports car not a taxi.

  6. The match is a good one, but the question is what is the objectif of it?, training locals and coming to play all new old faces does not mean we hae been having preparations. Fwayo, that man is adding no value, if i was the couch i would call Mbesum compared to Fwayo,

  7. And now that Afcon shows no sign of improvement on the issue of hosting, this is the time we need to talk about COSAFA, it can keep us alive.

  8. Zambia’s win against Niger was just a reaction by the players to the realisation that they may actually sit out AFCON 2015. The coach is still raw in coaching sense and the lions leave no survivors on the prowl. I don’t see him taking us to dizzying heights.

This friendly is more for Zambia’s Independence celebrations and it was going to be easy to get that friendly for obvious reasons. Problem is the coach is naive and timid to make bold decisions. Kalu, Charly, Lucky, Jonstone, were young ones when they were introduced in the national team and look at the impact of the game.

  9. You are busy bringing Ebola area affected people from Ivory Coast or West Africa when a rich nation like Morocco rejected a big tournament like the Afirca Cup of Nations for fear of these same people from the affected area’s. Let’s hope they will not bring Ebola to Zambia

  10. Daggers out independence celebrations and a friendly is no bad idea let the young lads get the much needed international caps other people on this blog are just too negative bout everything please learn to be objective

  11. Let Janza try out more local and young players. Those who want Keshi kindly make yo own faz and national team.I believe Zambia has better local coaches who can match yo Keshi if given chance and patience as u gave Herve Renard

  12. There is no need to risk people,s lifes over a friendly match.these players wil come frm west Africa near Ebola affected countries(am not saying they are carriers of the disease)let’s not take chances on issues avoidable.life is precious ala tukafwa nge mpashi .And then ?wat happens to Power vs Nkana game since power has 5 players in this friendly

  14. Those Ivoreans shoul be scanned effectively against Ebola. Even Togo which already was comfirmed to have Ebola, had to scan ghanain players in Lome fearing that they might bring another more deadly ebola virus.
Football will spread ebola across africa and CAF dont care coz its in there west african region.

  15. just to advise that our Mbesuma scored against his former club Pirates to take Black aces to second position on the log. he scored first in the 12th minute through a header … Pirates equalized and then the BA scored through a penalty to wrap-up the match .. Great for our son … Shalom

  16. he needs to get back to his old-self before being considered for a call out … it is very much possible … though I just read … Ucar was dropped from the national team but retained with vigour and scored serious goals among them against Uganda at ‘dag-hamajoed’ stadium in Ndola.

    Regards and Shalom

  17. I watched the match. Yes Mbesuma scored a goal which any striker can score. It was just an ordinary header/goal. But all in all Mbesuma is a tired guy. He couldn’t even complete the match as he just went down on his own due to injury/tiredness. It’s like he can’t complete 90 minutes of football. Mbesuma is not national team material anymore.

  18. Bloggers, who said there was ebola in Ivorycoast? You guys are worse than the Americans who are refusing to be around people who travel led from Zambia. In 93/94 when ebola broke out in DRC did people say all of central and southern africa had ebola…no. Let’s think about what we are saying Noti if ya ku landa landa fye.

  19. The match is good but we must be wary of the deadly Ebola.I don’t why the Government and FAZ have adopted a luck luster approach to the deadly scourge

  20. Positive Thinking aka realist :

CIV is in West Africa. These are high risk areas. You can not exempt it just like that. We have to guard against Ebola

  21. There s no ebola in ivory coast so we shouldnt make so much of a big issue around it. i for one feel the game between power and nkana should be moved as most of power’s players are at the national team and if the game on sunday still goes on, it will be bad for the yellow submarines.

  22. GOVERMENT ASKS GERMANY TO HELP US WITH TOP NOTCH COACH?honorable Kambwili is reported to have asked Germany to help us get a top coach he said ‘I asked Faz to beef up bench they brought so chap’We need a serious Germany coach he said to the visiting Bundesliga delegation.I AGREE WITH HONORABLE KAMBWILI we need a serious coach

  23. Let’s invest in our local coaches. Janza and Kampamba must be given full support. H R and PB are no more in Zed. There are now being proven failures in Ivory Cost. Come Saturday the local Elephants of Ivory Coast will fall .
