Mutapa ecstatic after first win at home…dedicates it to patient Eagles fans

Green Eagles boss Perry Mutapa was ecstatic after his side finally managed their first win at home, beating Nkana 2-0.

The Kawale Boys suffered two defeats at home against Nchanga Rangers and FC MUZA before drawing with FC Leopards and needed a win.

Mutapa was excited for the maximum points at Choma’s Independence Stadium and gave kudos to his players for the win.

He however feels his side could have scored even more goals and wants them to start finishing off games going forward.

“The first reaction is that I am very happy. especially for the supporters. The last game on the road, we drew against Nkwazi, but we said at home we should start winning because of the supporters, I think they deserve to go home happy. Equally ourselves, we have played all the football at home, but we haven’t had the three points. So today, I give kudos to the boys. They did what they could, and we are happy for the three points,” he said.

“For me I think we could have scored more goals, yes you can say we looked sharper because of the two goals. I am happy for three points but in terms of goals, could we have scored more? The answer is yes, especially in the second half so it looks sharper but we should be able to finish up the games.”

Mutapa was also quick to heap praise on the thirteen time MTN Super League Champions who he felt had an upper hand in the first half and created a lot of chances.

“ Very, very true. If you saw, I think I can even say it’s a game of two halves, especially in the first half, first minutes of the game. I think Nkana had the upper hand and they created a lot of chances. Maybe, I can say, maybe they were a bit intimidated, but we kept on pushing them. So I think from the touchline, we told the boys, I think, to keep the shape because Nkana was in control of the game and they missed a lot of chances in the first half,” he said.

“But come half-time, we regrouped and after a pep talk, I think we also came back in control,” he added.

The former Zambia U20 National team coach felt the match lived up to expectation which he believes is good for the fans as both Eagles and Nkana came to the party.

“I think they should always come here for support. I think in terms of football, we are not disappointing. And equally, today’s game, I think Nkana came to the party, especially in the first half. So it’s good for the spectators, for the supporters. This is what they come to watch. It’s entertaining football and goals,”  he said.

Amity Shamende scored a brace to lead the Kawale Boys to a 2-0 win over Nkana who remain winless after eight games in the 2025/2026 MTN Super League season.
