MICHO SET TO NAME MWEPU AS CHIPOLOPOLO CAPTAIN

Chipolopolo Boys coach Micho is set to name Austrian based midfielder Enoch Mwepu as the new national team captain, the ZamFoot Crew understands.

According to the ZamFoot Crew insiders, the Serbian born coach has finally made up his mind and has identified the 21-year-old Chambishi born midfielder as the man to lead the Chipolopolo Boys.

Should Mwepu be named as captain, he will be the youngest player to wear the armband in over 2 decades and also continue the trend of having Jersey no.11s with the armband.

African football icon Kalusha Bwalya and African Cup of Nations winning captain led the Chipolopolo Boys in the famous copper or green jersey no.11.

After Kabaso Chongo was expelled from camp last season, Micho handed the armband to Russian-based striker and AFCON winner Evans Kangwa owing to his experience. Kangwa is not part of tonight’s encounter against Botswana.

In the current Chipolopolo set up, the other contenders for the armband are Justin Shonga, Augustine Mulenga, and Lubambo Musonda.

Lubambo is the most experienced player in camp having made his international debut in 2014 in that famous 4-3 defeat to Japan and was captain of the junior Chipolopolo sides. He has also featured at the African Cup of Nations in 2015.

“Yes, Augustine or Lubambo might wear the armband but long term wise, Micho is looking at Mwepu or Patson Daka,” a ZamFoot Crew insider said.

Injured striker Patson Daka was Mwepu’s captain in the junior ranks.

At the club level, Mwepu has been given the armband ahead of Daka by the Red Bull Salzburg coach.
