Minister of Sports, Youth and Child Development, Honorable Emmanuel Mulenga took time off his schedule to watch the Chipolopolo Boys final training at Heroes Stadium on Wednesday session ahead of this evening’s crucial 2021 AFCON qualifier against Botswana.
The Minister was flanked by Ministry officials and Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) officials led by the President, Andrew Kamanga.
Honorable Mulenga delivered a message from the Republic President, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu who he said is confident the team will carry the day this evening and was praying for the team.
The Minister also urged the team not to disappoint the head of state as winning would be the only befitting present for him as he celebrated his 64th birthday yesterday.
“I have just brought a word from his Excellency the President, He is in Central Province, He really wanted to watch you guys tomorrow (today) but because of other pressing matters he can’t, But he said go and tell them that am praying for him and I have got confidence that you are going to win, please let’s not disappoint him,” he said.
“That’s the only Birthday gift we can give him today (yesterday) is his birthday. So the best birthday we can give his Excellency tomorrow (today) it’s you guys winning. We know and we do not doubt that you will do it. We do not doubt because God is on our side, So coach thanks for what you doing, and Mr. President thanks for making sure that Mwepu and the other players come in,” he added.
Zambia will host Botswana this evening at the National Heroes Stadium at 18:00hrs with the return fixture set for Gaborone four days later.
Zambia sits bottom of Group H with no point after two rounds of matches and a -6 goal difference after losing 5-0 and 2-1 to Algeria and Zimbabwe respectively.
