Lwandamina’s fixture overload might force FAZ to name another assistant

The Football Association of Zambia, FAZ could be forced to name a second assistant coach as interim Chipolopolo Boys coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina is caught in the club versus country commitments.

The involvement of Zesco United in the CAF Champions League will see Lwandamina occupied with the Ndola side.

This weekend, Zesco United host Guinea side AC Horoya, who have already arrived in Ndola and the weekend of 19th March, 2016, the Zambian Champions and Horoya will face each other in the second leg in Conakry.

Four days later on a Wednesday [23rd March], Lwandamina is expected to be in the dugout at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium as Zambia host Congo Brazaville.

If, Zesco United management decide that Lwandamina has to be on that flight to Guinea for the CAF Champions League return leg, then he might miss 7-10 days of the Chipolopolo training and depending on the flight connections from West Africa, Lwandamina might only be back in Ndola latest on Tuesday, meaning on the eve of the all important African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The other option is for Zesco United to travel to West Africa without their head coach and let him his first Tenant Chembo handle the away game but that might not go too well with the Ndola side’s executive who have already complained of Lwandamina’s part time involvement with the national team.

**Sandwiched between the fixture overload is the FAZ Elections and the AGM is set for 19th March, 2016 in Kitwe

When asked by the fixture overload, Lwandamina said he has capable assistants at both Zesco United and national team.

“I think at the club I have capable assistants [Tenant Chembo and Alfred Lupiya], who will be able to assist. Equally at the national team I have people who will be able to assist as well,” he said.

For the national team, there’s a doubt that England based Irfan Kawri might turn up after FAZ indicated that he will be part of the technical bench for the back to back qualifiers.

In a scenario that he Irfan won’t be available then, Chintu Kampamba will be the only ‘senior’ and in a squad boasting big egos like Chris Katongo, Collins Mbesuma, Rainford Kalaba and Kennedy Mweene, it could be too much to handle.

  1. Its not only the coach here, bt even the players zesco, tp mazember players, winstone nd mweene. Caf should hv seen this, winstone will be sa this week coming week in congo

  2. The Zesco job is more stable for Lwandamina because they accommodate him and pay him on time so if he is to choose, I think that would the direction to go. The fact that FAZ has not given him a long term contract plays into him having to make the tough choice of going with club over country.

  4. If u are up to date with mordern football u cant say chintu is doing nothing… Please ask the national team players abt chintu…in Mordern football u demonstrate the tactic …now can lwandamina run or wada ,Peter kaumba, these are managers and chintu is a trainer…he receive s instructions and demonstrate to the players for any drill …Renard uses Patrice …. Lwandamina has to observe how the players are responding to the drills he has to instructed ..that’s hw football is managed today…in Zambia there is only one qualified trainer and that’s chintu ….ask the players and coaches… U can’t ask kabole to demonstrate …the man is old he can’t run …he is supposed to be a manager…

  5. Kawri is needed now. This is best time to test his skills

A well organized FAZ should have had all fixtures for the year by now and this should have been envisaged!

When you talk some people think you havw insulted. This is nonsensical.

  6. CAF is a joke organization. How can you organize the CAF Champions league games and the AFCON qualifiers so close together. The lack of foresight is astounding.

How do you expect teams to field their best players for both events? Look at the UEFA Calendar. There are no club games during international fixtures. CAF is so backwards it is unbelievable. These guys are an embarrassment to the continent.

As for FAZ. Why not get off your behinds and give Lwandamina a contract or find another coach. Either finish doing your business on the toilet or stop sitting on it for no reason (trying to say this without getting my comment deleted). Getting a good assistant is not the answer. Get a coach period, stop putting a ka Band-Aid on an open wound.

    • Really agree with you man, because the football is being managed in Zambia totally differently, i don’t understand as to
Why they don’t want to give G chicken Lwandamina a guarantee
Contract. If they don’t want him,let go of him and concentrate
On his club because the day he will miss-up from both , things ll go sour for him. Give the national team
A permanent coach. Stop doing some experiment on G Chicken Lwandamina
      Please.
