Power Dynamos and Green Buffaloes (GBFC) take to the pitch today in the final of the 2016 season opening Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu Charity Shield.
A youthful Power Dynamos overcame champions Zesco United in the semi final. Despite looking second best on the day, Power dug deep to salvage a goal late in the game through a Conlyde Luchanga thunderbolt which took the game to penalties with Power prevailing 4 – 3.
Idriss Mbombo and Misheck Chaila missed their spot kicks for Zesco United while Power’s Larry Bwalya’s spot kick was saved.
GBFC on the other hand took on CAF Confederations Cup envoys Zanaco punch for punch and progressed with a lone goal scored by national team defender Adrian Chama.
In today’s game, Power are expected to continue with the flair of youth though they have lost Luchanga who has been recalled by his parent club Lusaka Dynamos but will be glad to welcome back Luka Lungu to the team.
Power look good in all areas but the central defense will have to step up as the pairing of Francis Kasonde and Billy Mutale looked suspect in the semifinal. Laurent Muma playing in the hole will have one or two things to learn from the veterans as old man Chimpinde showed more once he was introduced in the second half and Muma will have himself to blame if he finds himself starting on the bench.
GBFC play as a solid unit from the back to the front but what they lack is a strong punch in attack. The Army side looks like they will be good to repel the Power attack right from the midfield and Lungu, Martn Phiri as well as Patson Daka who are expected to start for Power will have to be at their best to break the Buffaloes at the back.
With Christopher Katongo in the team, GBFC always have that good movement in the final third but that is where they lack the most. Power will have to be weary of the set piece threat the Soldiers pose in attack.
If form is anything to go by, Power have an edge over GBFC having won 4 of their last 6 games losing twice while GBFC have won 3 of their last 6 games drawing twice.
Power beat GBFC 2 – 1 in Lusaka with goals from Govender Simwala and Christopher Munthali while Diamond Chikwekwe scored the face saver for GBFC. In the reverse fixture, Jack Chirwa’s lone goal was enough to settle the tie in Kitwe.
The game will be live on supersport.
