Nkwazi head coach Masauso Tembo says luck was not on his side after his team suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Green Eagles in Wednesday’s MTN Super League encounter in Choma.
Tembo described the result as painful, insisting his side created enough chances to get something from the game but failed to convert.
“It was a difficult game. We played very well and created a lot of chances, unfortunately luck wasn’t on our side. We couldn’t bury our chances and that’s painful,” Tembo said.
The Zambia Police sponsored outfit were also forced into an early change in the first half after George Ndhlovu picked up an injury.
Ndhlovu limped off in the 41st minute and was replaced by Misheck Luwisha, a development Tembo admitted disrupted his side’s plans.
“We made a change in the first half because George limped off and that was a setback,” he explained.
Despite the disappointment, Tembo has urged his players to remain positive and quickly shift focus to their next assignment.
“We need to be positive as the honour remains with us to lift the team up,” he said.
“We now put this game behind us and plan for our next game against Maite on Sunday,” Tembo added, referring to Mufulira Wanderers.
The decisive moment of the match came in the 16th minute when Kunda ‘Neymar’ Nkandu scored the only goal to hand the Kawale Boys their first victory over Nkwazi since 2022.
The win moved Green Eagles to 35 points on the MTN Super League table.
For Nkwazi, the defeat extended their difficult run of form, with the police side now winless in their last six matches, recording four defeats and two draws during that period.
