Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba has urged football fans to give George Lwandamina chance as he carries out his duties as the Chipolopolo head coach.
Mweemba said Lwandanima’s ability at national team level will soon be tested during the upcoming Four-Nation Tournament. He described the coach as a disciplined professional who is capable of guiding the national team.
Currently, Lwandamina is also overseeing Copperbelt-based side Nchanga Rangers, which has been enjoying an impressive run in the current season and is set to compete in the elite ABSA Tournament.
Meanwhile, Lwandanima has named a 34-man provisional squad that includes several young players from the Under-20 national team.
Lwandamina has handed Inverness Caledonian Thistle forward Chanka Zimba his first call-up to the Chipolopolo Boys. Kingstone Mutandwa has also returned to the set-up for the first time since October 2024.
The former ZESCO United coach has also handed call-ups to youngsters Abel Salim Nyirongo of Athletico Lusaka, U17 skipper Jonathan Kalimina, Kelvin Chipelu of Forest Rangers, goalkeeper Christo Chitambala, and Joseph Mulenga of Nchanga Rangers.
Leicester City forward Patson Daka, Fashion Sakala of Al Fayha, and Lameck Banda of Lecce lead the regulars summoned for the assignment.
Hosts Botswana will welcome 2012 AFCON champions Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe for the regional tournament, which will feature the senior men’s national teams of the four participating nations during the March FIFA international window.
The competition will provide the Chipolopolo Boys with a valuable platform to begin preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
A draw will determine the two semifinal fixtures, with the winners advancing to the final while the losing teams face off in the third-place playoff.
