Injury rules Kangwa out of Guinea Bissau game

Chipolopolo team Doctor Joseph Kabungo has confirmed that striker Evans Kangwa has also been ruled out of the Saturday game against Guinea Bissau.

Dr. Kabungo stated that Kangwa suffered a groin injury during training yesterday and is experiencing pain.

Dr Kabungo said:” Evans is still experiencing pain on his left groin. I think essentially he is also out of Saturday’s game.”

Kangwa was the stand-out player when Zambia played Ethiopia on Sunday and he provided the assist for Allan Mukuka’s lone goal.

He joins Stopilla Sunzu who suffered strained ligaments on his left knee during training yesterday. The team doctor said Sunzu will be out for about two weeks.

“He will need at least two weeks. He will need constant reviews in between and we have to make sure that his knee gets back to its normal shape in that period,” Dr Kabungo said of Sunzu.

Zambia hosts Guinea-Bissau in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday, June 13.

The West Africans are expected in the country tomorrow at 14:30hrs. They land at KK International Airport and connect to Ndola immediately.

  1. Too bad for our pacey and stealth striker Kangwa. Ba Zamfoot, has the technical bench released the final squad to face Guinea Bissau?

    • They will not drop anyone from the current team. Even Kangwa and Sunzu will stay in camp.
He will only announce the final squad on the day of the game.

  2. Evans kangwa is just an average striker. A half fit Mayuka is much better than a full fit kangwa. The guy is average and it was there for you to see at afcon. Mayuka, kola and sate sate are the best strikers we have. Mbesuma and Jacob were good to but age has caught up with them.

    • Boss you don’t know what you are talking about. Evans Kangwa is seriously talented. Problem is that you watch him coming on as a substitute in one tournament and then form an opinion? Where else have you watched Evans Kangwa for you to say average? Problem is, you want to form opinions based on Youtube videos

    • What did a full fit Mayuka do ku afcon apart from gt us knocked out?10 chances..sitters and you score 1!! smh..

    • I can agree with John on this one. Kangwa is just average. He sustains injuries so easily, a sign of ubukula. Sate Sate is even far better than Kangwa.

  3. Where is Paradox’s opinion on the team selection? He is silent till it comes to the negatives of other West African, indeed African, Giants. Africa lagging behind becos of “half empty” crusaders like Paradox & Mumbi. They never see the “half full”. Reaping what they are sowing – always behind.

  4. Paradox Ghana and Paradox Zambia you are like that cartoon in Tom and Jerry, now you are missing him same with those cartoons they even miss each other and yet they are always on each other’s necks, lol.

  5. Just a comment on our strikers – Only a person that does not understand football can say Evans Kangwa is an average player. The only thing this boy is missing is composure in front of goal. When that comes he is gone. He movement, dribbling, speed and workrate means he always creates alot of goal scoring chances. I believe him, Sate and Daka are the future. On Mayuka lets file it. When was the last time he had a good game? you have to go back 3 years. He was good at one time but that was in the past. Right now he has lost all passion for football and has the look of a man going through the motions. Based on current form he should not even have been selected to the squad. Sate Sate looks good in front of goal but his all round game needs improving. He tends to be lazy in games. Hopefully the hard working type of play they play in Egypt is having a postive influence on him. Apart from these two place Daka. I cannot comment on Kola i have never watched him play. On Jacob and Mbesuma, being in South Africa, i still believe Mbesuma along with Kalaba are the most naturally gifted players to come out Zambia in the last 15 years. But we need to move on hand to next generation.

    • @ Ngake, you are right on Kangwa, some people form opinions on certain players based on one or two clips they see on Youtube. The reason why Kangwa is an AFCON medalist is because he was taken on by HR after producing wonders in the domestic league. Him and Sate Sate formed one of the meanest striking force in the league. On Sate, all he needs is a very good strike partner hassling for him as was seen during the time he played alongside Evans Kangwa,Festus Mbewe and to some extent Simon Bwalya. Give the boy a chance and he will bury it. As for Kola, not too sure where the noise about him comes from but he surely hasn’t done anything special of late but I think he needs a chance as well. Some players like Fwayo and Felix have even grown beards whilst playing for the national with nothing exceptional to show for it. Maybe Kola needs a shot as well.

  6. Too bad for Evans, how I wish it was either mayuka or Jackson Mwanza who was injured. Any way am not saying they should be injured but going for punch for punch, Evans will stand out to be the best among the called strikers seconded by Sate Sate. For me Mayuka has fallen from 80 to 2 percent to be fair with him. Jackon Mwanza should stop holding the ball for too long and makes him not be a national team material. Patson is good but we rushing the boy.

  7. A huge blow coz ma strikers we have nikisi.. The likes of Mayuka should not even come close to the team for now.. Mayuka represents us holding on to past glory even though his was most fleeting indeed so kaya where he fits in. Id rather even call Katongo

  8. I read an article in the post in april about late Robert watiyakeni’s daughter who was 11yrs at the time of her father’s death but if u check the CAN 92 squad it says he was 22 @ tht tournament which means he died aged 23. That means he had her wen he was 12yrs? Imyaka shamu bola
