Power Dynamos have been crowned MTN Super League champions after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Konkola Blades, sealing the title with four matches still to play.
The result takes Power to 70 points — an unassailable 15-point lead over second-placed Red Arrows, whose own defeat on Saturday mathematically ended the title race.
Power struck first in the 17th minute when Chifundo Mphasi showed pace and composure to win possession before driving forward and firing past David Mumba. Konkola Blades responded before the break, with Kelly Kayembe levelling in the 40th minute to set up a tense finish to the first half.
But the champions restored their lead almost immediately. Defender Samuel Bamidele Ayodeji rose to meet a corner in the 45th minute, guiding a glancing header into the net to hand Power a decisive advantage they would not relinquish.
The victory confirms a ninth league title for Power Dynamos, drawing them level with ZESCO United and Mufulira Wanderers on the all-time list, with only Nkana — on 13 — having won more.
Red Arrows’ slim hopes were extinguished following a 1-0 defeat to Mutondo Stars at Arthur Davies Stadium. Wansanga Mhango scored the only goal in the 33rd minute, converting from close range after a well-worked set piece. The result lifts Mutondo out of the relegation zone to 14th place on 31 points, while Arrows are left unable to catch the leaders.
Elsewhere, FC MUZA boosted their top-half ambitions with a 2-0 away win over FC Leopards. Gift Samanansa broke the deadlock shortly after the restart with a moment of individual brilliance, before Damiano Mutale sealed the points with a stoppage-time strike. The defeat leaves Leopards second from bottom and facing an increasingly difficult battle for survival.
Kansanshi Dynamos continued their strong late-season form with a 1-0 win over Green Buffaloes in Solwezi. Garry Mwelwa scored the decisive goal in the 30th minute, finishing off a swift attacking move to lift his side to 10th place on 38 points.
ZANACO also returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Mines United, a result that confirms the latter’s relegation. Araina Lambert opened the scoring in the 17th minute, before Dominic Kanda converted a penalty early in the second half to secure the win and move the Bankers up to sixth.
