Zambian utility player Gamphani Lungu is expected to make a sensational return to the Chipolopolo Boys set up for the first time in two years.
Over the weekend, Lungu produced another influential performance for Orlando Pirates, setting up Deon Hotto’s winning goal as the Buccaneers edged Sekhukhune United 1-0 in the first leg of their MTN8 semi-final.
The assist takes Lungu’s tally to three goal involvements in his first four competitive appearances for Pirates this season, having already scored twice.
The former National Assembly player is now believed to have earned his place back in the national team with Lwandamina expected to summon him for the final camp of next month’s crucial 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The ZamFoot Crew understands that Lungu will be one of the foreign based players that will join camp when the FIFA international window opens on 21 September.
Lungu’s last call up for Zambia came in June 2024 during World Cup qualifiers against Morocco and Tanzania. His last appearance however came three months earlier than that in a friendly game against Malawi.
The Chipolopolo Boys will travel to Algeria on 25 September before returning home to face Togo four days later at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
