Goalkeeper Geoffrey Silavwe was given a starting berth between the sticks ahead of Green buffaloes first-choice shot-stopper Fred Silwamba who is recovering from an illness on Wednesday at MTN stadium in a game where his team played host to Lusaka Dynamos. Green Buffaloes and Lusaka Dynamos are the only two teams in the Super League who are yet to test defeat from the opening seven games.
To protect the record of not being beaten by any team in the Superleague this season, Silavwe needed to be sharp and up to the task facing a lethal Elite strike force.
Lusaka dynamos threatened throughout the game with Collins Sikombe, Marvin Jere, and Emmanuel Chabula asking lots of questions on goal.
Silavwe was however equal to the challenge denying Lusaka Dynamos a lot of clear scoring opportunities which kept his side in the game to rescue a point for them after 90 minutes and kept their unbeaten run. Silavwe paid the faith coach Bilton Musonda had in him with a man of the Match performance.
After the match, Silavwe expressed happiness with his performance and highlighted what it meant to him to start in goal and produce a man of the match performance.
Silavwe told the ZamFoot Crew that he took the game like it was a final.
“I was very happy to start today’s (Wednesday) game, to me it was like a cup final and I didn’t have pressure cause am always ready for a chance to come and when it comes I make sure I utilize it, I had confidence cause a chance just comes once in life so I had to use the chance I was given,” Silavwe said.
Silavwe is now hoping for more of such opportunities to continue coming his way but says he is not sure if he has won the coach’s heart.
“About winning the coach’s heart am not sure but I hope to do more than I did today looking for more clean sheets,” he said.
The former Zambia U-20 and U-23 national team shot-stopper is hoping to be given another starting berth in a week eight encounter when his team will travel to Khosa stadium in Kafue to face Young Green eagles.
