Zambian coach Wedson Nyirenda has agreed a two-year contract to become the new head coach of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, bringing an end to the Malawian giants’ search for a permanent manager.
Nyirenda, 59, was spotted alongside Bullets officials at Crocs Swamp in Lusaka on Sunday as negotiations reached their final stages before the deal was concluded.
The former Zambia national team coach was formally welcomed by a delegation from the club led by Chief Executive Officer Albert Chigoga, Club President Konrad Buckle and Football Development Director Jason Bowler.
His appointment follows an extensive recruitment process conducted by the People’s Team, who had drawn up a five-man shortlist featuring Nyirenda and fellow Zambian coach Chris Kaunda, former Mighty Wanderers boss Mark Harrison of South Africa, experienced German tactician Ernst Middendorp and Malawian coach Gerald Phiri Jr.
Nyirenda arrives with a strong coaching pedigree, having previously managed some of the region’s leading clubs, including Zanaco and ZESCO United in Zambia, as well as South African side Baroka FC. He also enjoyed a spell in charge of the Zambia national team.
The move represents a significant statement of intent from Nyasa Big Bullets as they seek to maintain their status as Malawi’s most successful football club and challenge for further domestic honours.
An official unveiling is expected in the coming days, with Nyirenda set to take charge ahead of the club’s forthcoming competitive fixtures.
