Zambia Women National Team striker Grace Chanda and head coach Bruce Mwape have made the final three names shortlisted for the 2022 CAF Awards.
Chanda has made the last three of the Best CAF Women’s Player of the Year Award, alongside Ajara Nchout Njoya of Cameroon and FC Barcelona and Nigeria star Asisat Oshoala who has won the award four times.
Mwape on the other hand is up for the Coach of the year ( Women) alongside Banyana Banyana’s Desiree Ellis, Jerry Tshabalala of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, and Reynald Pedros of Morocco.
Chanda who is based in Kazakhstan has captained the Copper Queens to their first FIFA Women’s World Cup appearance at the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), scoring two goals and picking up two Woman of the Match awards in matches against Togo and South Africa.
In the men’s category, former winners’ Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane of Egypt and Senegal will have to battle it out with Senegal shot stopper Edouard Mendy, also a new comer in the three-men list.
For Women’s National Team of the Year due to the absence of a major women’s competition during the period under review, The TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco will be factored as one of the criterion in deciding a winner befitting of the status of the award and women’s football in general.
The winner will be announced on 23 July 2022 during the final match of the Women’s AFCON.
The Awards will be held in Rabat, Morocco on Thursday, 21st July 2022 at 20h00 local time. (19h00 GMT).
