CWCL: Buffaloes drawn in Group B alongside Young Buffaloes and Moroni

Zambian Women’s Super League Champions, Green Buffaloes have been drawn in Group B for the 2022 COSAFA Women’s Champions League zonal qualifiers.

Buffaloes have been drawn alongside Young Buffaloes of Eswatini and Olympique de Moroni of Comoros.

Defending Champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have been drawn in group A alongside Costa Do Sol of Mozambique and Botswana side, Double Action Ladies.

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies are both the defending COSAFA and continental champions after they lifted the trophies in both competitions last year.

Green Buffaloes, join the defending Champions, and Double Action Ladies from Botswana as the three sides who return for the second year in a row. Buffaloes and Double Action were both losing semifinalists in 2021.

Young Buffaloes from Eswatini, Costa do Sol from Mozambique, and Comoros representatives Olympic de Moroni are making their debut.

The winner of each pool will advance to the final, with the second-placed teams to play in a bronze-medal match, meaning there is little room for error and one poor outing could spell disaster.

The tournament itself will be held in Durban from August 7-13, where the champion clubs from around the COSAFA region will converge for the second staging of the championship after a hugely successful inaugural event in 2021.

The winners in Durban will advance to the 2022 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League finals that are to be held in Morocco later in the year, and where local side AS FAR awaits as hosts.
