FAZ closing in on a new Chipolopolo coach

Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) President, Andrew Kamanga has confirmed that the Association is close to naming a new Chipolopolo coach.

Kamanga revealed the development during his weekly President’s corner segment posted on the FAZ official social media pages.

“On the national team side of business, we are closing in on the appointment of the senior men’s national team coach. The process is in full swing with key stakeholders fully engaged and hopefully we can have a long-term steward of the Chipolopolo ship in place soon.

We are mindful of the urgency of this matter and are giving it our full attention. Our aim is to do better next year for all our national teams. We will keep our robust youth and women football drive going as we compete on various fronts.”

The Chipolopolo Boys job was left vacant when Nkana boss Beston Chambeshi’s contract came to an end last month.

Chambeshi was hired in an interim capacity last July after the dismissal of Serbian born coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredjovic earlier that same month.

Chipolopolo technical advisor Aljosa Asanovic is favourite to land the top coaching job. The 55 year old featured for clubs in his homeland, England, Italy and Australia.

Asanović featured in the Euro 1996 and 1998 FIFA World Cup, in which Croatia won the bronze medal.

He was Slaven Bilic’s assistant coach for six years from 2006 to 2012 when he was in charge of the Blazers. The former Croatia midfielder then had coaching spells in Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.

  1. At least Croatian AA has an impressive playing history. Let’s give him a chance to perform. From my point of view he has been picked at the right time, while we have a good number of players at a high level in Europe. The coach and the boys will hopefully be on same page.

  2. What sin has Charlie “Kool “ Musonda done that he’s never been given a chance to coach at any chipolopolo level ?

  3. Being a good player doesn’t mean he will be a good coach. He failed lamentably with BC so what has he added to chipolopolo since he came?
