Zambia midfielder Klings Kangwa opened his account for Panathinaikos as the Greek giants maintained their perfect start to the Super League season with a 3-1 victory over Kifisia on Thursday.
Kangwa, who started the match, broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a well-placed finish into the corner after Santino Andino created the opening with a fine individual run into the box.
The goal was Kangwa’s first since joining Panathinaikos and helped the Greens continue their winning run after victories over Levadiakos and PAOK.
The 27-year-old had already threatened in the first half, firing narrowly wide from distance in the 15th minute as Panathinaikos dominated possession without being able to find a breakthrough.
Kangwa was substituted in the 60th minute, shortly before Panathinaikos were reduced to 10 men following a second yellow card for Zolimbois.
Kifisia took advantage of the numerical situation to equalise in the 74th minute through Theodoridis, after Panathinaikos failed to clear the danger.
However, Panathinaikos responded immediately. Vicente Taborda restored their lead from the penalty spot in the 81st minute after VAR intervention following a handball on the goal-line.
Elmin Rastoder then sealed the victory in stoppage time with a composed finish to make it 3-1.
The result moved Panathinaikos to the top of the Super League standings as coach Jacob Nystrup’s side extended their winning streak.
For Kangwa, the goal provides an early landmark in his Panathinaikos career, although he will now have to wait before adding to his international appearances for Zambia.
The midfielder is suspended for Zambia’s upcoming back-to-back 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Algeria and Togo.
Kangwa is serving a four-match suspension stemming from an incident involving match officials during Zambia’s final group match against Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
He will therefore miss Zambia’s trip to Algeria on 25 September and the home fixture against Togo four days later.
