Green Buffaloes Women have signed former Zambia Under-20 striker Mary Mbewe on a permanent transfer from Zambia Premier League Women’s Super League rivals ZESCO Ndola Girls.
Mbewe becomes the third player announced by Buffaloes on Wednesday as the club continues to strengthen its squad ahead of the new campaign.
The forward brings experience from her time with the Zambia U20 Women’s National Team and will now reunite with her former national team coach Charles Haalubono, who is the current head coach of Green Buffaloes Women.
Haalubono previously worked with Mbewe at U20 level, and the move gives the coach an opportunity to work with the striker again at club level.
“Her move marks a new chapter in her career, and the club is delighted to welcome her to the Buffaloes family,” Green Buffaloes said in a statement.
“We look forward to seeing Mary in the Green Buffaloes colours as we continue to build a strong team.”
Mbewe’s arrival follows the earlier signings of experienced defender Vast Phiri and former Zambia Under-17 Women’s National Team defender Lweendo Hanongo, both of whom were also announced by the club on Wednesday.
The trio are part of Buffaloes’ efforts to reinforce their squad, with Mbewe adding another attacking option to Haalubono’s side.
Mbewe now begins a new chapter at Green Buffaloes after her spell with ZESCO Ndola Girls, while also linking up again with a coach she previously worked under at international youth level.
