FT: Liverpool 4-3 Salzburg
UEFA CHAMPS|Chipolopolo midfield genius Enock Mwepu demonstrated why he is nicknamed ‘computer’ at Liverpool’s backyard by showing flashes of brilliance, providing an important assist in Red Bull Salsburg’s first goal, and creating the third goal with a trademark blind-pass,which resulted in a goal,as his side put up Galant comeback losing narrowly 4-3 away in a 7-goal thriller played at Anfield, in the 2019/20 UEFA Champions League group stage second round of matches.
Meanwhile,country-mate Patson Daka came close to scoring twice in the first half, with one opportunity skied over the cross-bar and another rebound off-the-Liverpool-goalkeeper went wide; as Coach Jesse Marsch could not offer him any further part of the action, withdrawing him in the 56th minute, for another danger-man Halaad.
Red Bull Salzburg started shaky, conceding 3-times in the first half but quickly settled in the second half with aggression, winning first time balls in the defensive half and controlling the midfield and attack with precision;which enabled them to come back brilliantly to equalize 3-all by the 60th minute ,before brace-hero Mohamed Salah scored the winner in the 69th minute.
Liverpool’s all-round experience, in the end, separated the two sides, now both teams on 3-points after round two(2) matches of the group stage.

That Salzburg team was very deadly upfront and if only they played like liverpool without selfishness upfront they could have scored more goals. I have watched most of their games even in Austria the fact is strikers (even if it is the quality finishing coupled with technical know that makes a striker complete) are made by midfielders for example if Mwepu did not pick up Minamino Haaland could not have been on the receiving end tapping in a minamino pass. There were about three possible clear chances that could have put Daka on the score sheet but Minamino denied Daka (even though He is a quality player He is the copy of Salah where selfishness is concerned). Mwepu on the other end was played too deep and whenever He played in his role things happened, Mwepu’s movements on the pitch and his passes are clinical so much so that Liverpool had to close him up in the end to survive. Daka also was underutilized by his team mates. Sometimes I feel most of these players of colour and blacks as well have a tendency of killing their own – I am not being racial but it is the truth – If you mirror Haaland and Daka’s movements upfront they were more the same although Daka lacks a bit in terms of technique. For me Mwepu, not because He is my Countryman, stood out and if any team bought Him they would benefit greatly especially from His creativity and brains. Well done Boys you made us proud for the first time I had to sideline my team Liverpool for our Boys.
Well analysed, Got same sentiments as you. Selfishness killed the game, otherwise Mwepu played an excellent game. PD was marginalised by selfishness.
Jurgen Klopp on Mwepu
“It was a tough game but our boys did their best to win. We had difficulties in the midfield, I must give credit to the RB Salzburg team for giving us a good game. I can single out one midfielder who was brilliant for his side, the Jersey number 45 (Mwepu) , he did a great job for his team, he is such a great young player, his physic and ball control is amazing. They dominated the midfield especially in the second half but we will improve and qualify after all.”
