CWCL COSAFA Qualifiers Preview: Buffaloes, Sundowns in epic battle for a place in the finalĀ 

Green Buffaloes Women’s Football Club will face their biggest test yet at the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League| COSAFA Qualifiers when they face off with Mamelodi Sundowns for a place in the final. 

The defending Champions and the 2021 winners will square off on Wednesday afternoon in a titanic clash dubbed the ‘final before the final’. 

Buffaloes scraped through to the Semi-finals following a 2-1 win over Lesotho Defense Force to finish second in Group A. 

Sundowns on the other hand secured their passage to the semi-finals with a 100 percent winning record. 

While Coach Carol Kanyemba Daka’s side has struggled to find the back of the net, Sundowns have flourished scoring 16 unanswered goals in three matches. 

Sundowns and Buffaloes will be meeting for a third straight time. Sundowns beat Green Buffaloes 1-0 in the 2021 Semi-finals while Buffaloes edged Sundowns on post match penalties last year in the final

Sundowns will rely on the brilliance of Lelona Daweti, Andisiwe Mgcoyi and Miche Minnies. 

For Buffaloes coach Daka will have a big decision to make on who starts between the sticks with Eunice Sakala looking for her debut in the tournament and Ng’ambo Petronella Musole and Aisha Mbwana also available for selection. 

In defence Lushomo Mweemba and Agnes Musesa are expected to continue their partnership with Memory Nthala, Martha Katila Banda, Esther Siamfuko, Loveness Malunga and Diana Banda all available to complete the back four. 

In Midfield, Judith Soko is available for selection again together with skipper Joana Benaya. 

Esther Banda scored the winner against Lesotho Defense Force hence will be hoping to continue with the momentum. 

The creative Maweta Chilenga, Lubasi Pumulo, Margaret Chisenga and Enelesi Phiri are all available. 

Maylan Mulenga is expected to lead the attack alongside either Siomala Mapepa or Agnes Phiri. 

Comfort Selemani, Salome Phiri, Natasha Nanyangwe and Lucy Kajiya are also available for selection. 

Sundowns take on Green Buffaloes in the second game at 15h30 CAT at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.
