The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has confirmed that the Zambia Women’s National Team will have a home game before their departure for Germany for an international camp.
The FIFA World Cup bound squad will get a send off international friendly match on home soil prior ahead of the highly anticipated 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga said that apart from giving the Copper Queens adequate preparations for the ninth edition of the World Cup, the Association wants to give fans an opportunity to watch the team this month.
“Zambians will have an opportunity to send them (the Copper Queens) off in Lusaka. With the preparations being lined up, we are confident that they won’t disappoint. We are reinforcing the technical bench to make sure that when the Copper Queens go to the World Cup, they will not disappoint,” Kamanga said during Friday’s edition of the breakfast show on Hot FM.
So far, the Copper Queens have played seven high level friendlies with games against Republic of Ireland and Germany confirmed for 22 June and 7 July respectively.
The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand from 20 July to 20 August 2023.
The Copper Queens are in Group C at the Women’s World Cup and will commence their debut outing with a match against Japan on July 22 followed by Spain four days later and Costa Rica on July 31.
Prior to the FIFA World Cup, the Copper Queens will set up base in Furth and will play high profile matches in Europe against Republic of Ireland, Switzerland and Germany.
Where is the technical assistant we were promised? All this means nothing if we are sending this ill-equipped coaching stuff to go and perform wonders at the world cup. The team has great individual skills but they are technically very poor as a team and the current coaches cannot fix that. They are incapable of doing more that what they have. The team is being set up for failure and we will be exposed at the world stage. Attach a seasoned technical expert to save the nation some embarrassment. It’s the patriotic thing to do!
