Klings Kangwa continued his impressive season in Israel after providing the assist for the decisive goal in Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s hard-fought 1-0 victory over Maccabi Haifa at the Sammy Ofer Stadium.
The Chipolopolo midfielder delivered the corner kick deep into stoppage time that was headed home by Javon East to seal a dramatic away win for Be’er Sheva.
The result moves Be’er Sheva to 69 points, just one behind league leaders Beitar Jerusalem with five matches remaining in the Israeli Premier League season.
Kangwa’s latest contribution takes his tally to 16 goal involvements this campaign, having scored 10 goals and registered six assists in an outstanding season for the Zambian international.
Backed by 2,051 travelling supporters among a crowd of 17,423 at Sammy Ofer, Be’er Sheva survived sustained pressure from the hosts before striking late to maintain their push for a league and cup double.
Maccabi Haifa created the better chances early on, with Eitan Azoulay rattling the woodwork in the first half, while defender Elad Amir was forced off injured before the break.
Despite Haifa dominating large spells of the second half, Be’er Sheva remained resilient and found the breakthrough in the 90th minute through East’s winner from Kangwa’s set-piece delivery.
Be’er Sheva will now turn their attention to the remaining league fixtures before facing Maccabi Tel Aviv in the State Cup final on May 26.
