Zambian players snubbed for CAF Player of the Year award

The Confederation of African Football, CAF, has released a 10-man shortlist for the Player of the Year.

No Zambian player has made the cut.

Kalusha Bwalya was the last player to win the CAF award in 1988 while Chris Katongo was named Africa’s best by the BBC in 2012.

Some of the names that made the cut are the Nigerian duo of Ademola Lookman (Atalanta) and William Troost-Ekong (Al-Kholood).

Others on the list are Achraf Hakimi (Morocco, PSG), Simon Adingra (Cote d’Ivoire, Brighton), Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Orlando Pirates).

Serhou Guirassy (Guinea, Borussia Dortmund/Frankfurt), Amine Gouri (Algeria, Rennes), Chancel Mbemba (Congo, Marseille) and Brahimi Diaz (Morocco, Real Madrid).

  1. Oh even the mighty Fashion Sakala couldn’t make it 😅🤣🤣😂 we better pull up our efforts as a national team mwe.

This is concerning. No Zambian on the shortlisted nations. Zero not even Patson .

  2. Calling a spade a spade at the moment there is no chipolopolo boy who deserves to be on that list. Chipolopolo boys need to pull-up their socks both as a team and individuals. They seem to have the I don’t care type of attitude towards duty, I mean they lack dedication to duty. When on the pitch they look like they are just playing football for recreational purposes or even doing fans a favour, they forget that it’s their way of earning a living for themselves and their families. Actually local football players seem to be more dedicated than the so called overseas based professionals players.
